1. Inflation, price dispersion and the informational content of prices: evidence from a hyperinflation episode / Inflação, dispersão de preços e o conteúdo informacional dos preços: evidências de um episódio de hiperinflação
This study examines the relationship between in ation and price dispersion during the hyperin ationary episode in Brazil. We look at micro data on price dynamics through the perspective of dispersion at the store level, building on the informational consequences of high price dispersion. Rather than focus on which theoretical framework best explains the rela

2. Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2: achievements and current challenges
Incremental advances in medical technology, such as the development of sensitive hormonal assays for routine clinical care, are the drivers of medical progress. This principle is exemplified by the creation of the concept of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2, encompassing medullary thyroid cancer, pheochromocytoma, and primary hyperparathyroidism, which di

3. Tayloring Brazil : a system dynamics model for monetary policy feedback
The thesis introduces a system dynamics Taylor rule model of new Keynesian nature for monetary policy feedback in Brazil. The nonlinear Taylor rule for interest rate changes con-siders gaps and dynamics of GDP growth and inflation. The model closely tracks the 2004 to 2011 business cycle and outlines the endogenous feedback between the real interest rate, GD

4. Micro evidence on brazilian price stickiness and its consequences for sectoral real exchange rate and inflation persistence

6. Retail competition and shelf space allocation
We develop a model to study shelf space allocation in retail. Retailers compete for consumers not only choosing prices but also by the space allocated to each product on shelves. Our approach depart from the existing literature on shelf allocation, as we model the problem of price setting and shelf allocation in an oligopolistic retail market. We present a s

8. Price-setting policy determinants: micro-evidence from Brazil
The paper studies the frequency of price changes from a survey data on Brazilian companies. The data set has the advantage of including all of the economic sectors: agricultural and food products, trading, industry and services. Strong evidence of nominal price rigidities is found on the data with average and median price durations around 10.1 and 8.1 months

9. INFORMATIONAL FRICTIONS AND INFLATION DYNAMICS / FRICÇOES INFORMACIONAIS E DINÂMICA DA INFLAÇÃO
This thesis encompasses three essays on price setting under stickydispersed information (SDI). The baseline framework mixes the sticky information model of Mankiw and Reis (2002) with dispersed information models like Morris and Shin (2002) and Angeletos and Pavan (2007). In Chapter 1, we derive the equilibrium of the game assuming that firms face strategic

10. ESSAYS IN PRICE SETTING UNDER IMPERFECT INFORMATION / ENSAIOS EM FIXAÇÃO DE PREÇOS SOB INFORMAÇÃO INCOMPLETA
This thesis consists of three theoretical essays on topics in price setting under imperfect information. Unifying the essays are two features: (i) heterogeneous information about aggregate economic conditions and (ii) a moderate degree of complementarity in pricing decisions. In Chapter 1, the transmission of information is studied in a model with a vertical

12. Formação de preço de energia elétrica gerada por biomassa no Ambiente de Contratação Livre brasileiro: uma abordagem computacional baseada em agentes / Price setting process of electricity generated by biomass in the brazilian Free Agreement Environment: a computational agent-based approach
Electricity generation in ethanol and sugar mills using bagasse as a fuel in cogeneration process is a traditional practice. In Brazil, since the 1980s mills have evolved to a position of almost self-sufficiency in electricity production, which indicates a strong potential of electricity surplus that can be used as a complement in the electricity national ma
