1. Temperature, pH and carbon source affect drastically indole acetic acid production of plant growth promoting yeasts
Abstract Rhizosphere and phylloplane yeasts are able to produce phytohormones, acting as potential plant growth promoters. The aim of this study was to analyze the production of indole acetic acid (IAA) by yeasts using variations in the culture conditions. The yeasts evaluated were Rhodotorula mucilaginosa and Trichosporon asahii, which were cultivated in a

2. Bacterial selection for biological control of plant disease: criterion determination and validation
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the biocontrol potential of bacteria isolated from different plant species and soils. The production of compounds related to phytopathogen biocontrol and/or promotion of plant growth in bacterial isolates was evaluated by measuring the production of antimicrobial compounds (ammonia and antibiosis) and hydrolytic enzymes

3. Induction of systemic resistance in tomato by the autochthonous phylloplane resident Bacillus cereus.
The objective of this work was to verify if the induced resistance mechanism is responsible for the capacity of a phylloplane resident bacteria (Bacillus cereus), isolated from healthy tomato plants, to control several diseases of this crop. A strain of Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato was used as the challenging pathogen. The absence of direct antibiosis of

5. Bactérias isoladas do filoplano no biocontrole da alternariose e da podridão negra da couve / Bacteria isolated from the phylloplane and biocontrol of alternaria diseases and black rot of collards
An investigation was carried on observing the potential antagonism of 324 resident bacteria in the phylloplane of collards, grouped in: those producing fluorescent pigments; those forming endospores; and other antagonists. They were tested against alternaria leaf spot, caused by Alternaria brassicicola, and black rot, caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. cam

7. Biofertilizer as tool to increase microbial diversity for management of plants diseases / Biofertilizante como ferramenta para incrementar a diversidade microbiana visando o manejo de doenças de plantas
In this study were compared the community of yeasts in the phylloplane of lily a conventional system with high pesticide use, with an without pesticide use, with the use of biofertilizers and biocontrol agents; to evaluate the antagonism of yeast Sporidiobolus pararoseus isolated from leaves of lily on Botrytis cinerea; determined the microbial epiphytic in

8. Isolamento e seleção de procariotos residentes de filoplano do tomateiro com potencial para o controle de doenças da cultura / Isolation of resident prokaryote of the tomato plant phylloplane with potential for the control of diseases of the culture
This work aimed to select tomato prokaryotic phylloplane residents for biocontrol purposes, by using Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria and Alternaria solani as challenging pathogens. Additionally, to perform a screening test using detached leaves. Consequently, leaves from healthy tomato plants were collected at Viçosa, MG and epiphytic prokaryote popu

9. Biological control of coffee rust / Controle biológico da ferrugem do cafeeiro
This thesis is part of a research program aiming to biocontrol coffee rust (Hemileia vastatrix, Hv) in organically-grown coffee. Efficiency of bacterial isolates was compared in two plantations, during 3 years. Isolates B157 (Bacillus sp.) and P286 (Pseudomonas sp.) reduced disease intensity relative to the control; B157 was as efficient as copper hydroxide.

10. Deliver and populational tendencies of the biocontrol agent Pseudomonas putida in the tomato phylloplane / Dispensa e dinâmica populacional do agente de biocontrole Pseudomonas putida no filoplano de tomateiro

11. The Phylloplane as a Source of Bacillus thuringiensis Variants
Novel variants of Bacillus thuringiensis were isolated from the phylloplane of deciduous and conifer trees as well as of other plants. These isolates displayed a range of toxicity towards Trichoplusia ni. Immunoblot and toxin protein analysis indicate that these strains included representatives of the three principal B. thuringiensis pathotypes active agains

12. Production of antibacterial compounds by phylloplane-inhabiting yeasts and yeastlike fungi.
The production of antibacterial compounds by yeasts and yeastlike fungi isolated from the phylloplane is reported. Aureobasidium pullulans, Citeromyces matritensis, Cryptococcus laurentii, Rhodotorula glutinis, and Sporobolomyces roseus produced antibacterial compounds inhibitory to both Pseudomonas fluorescens and Staphylococcus aureus in an overlay bioassa
