1. Fast Determination of Iron and Zinc in Hair and Human Serum Samples After Alkaline Solubilization by GF AAS
Methods for the development and validation for determination of iron and zinc in human serum and hair samples by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF AAS) were performed. Solubilization was immediate by manual agitation in both samples with a 10 mL volume sample plus deionized water. Optimum pyrolysis and atomization temperatures were obtained

Performance evaluation of asphalt binder modified poly (phosphoric acid) (PPA) and effects adding the liquid from the bark of cashew (LCC)
The AC with 50/70 penetration grade (Petrobras - LUBNOR), pure and modified by polyphosphoric acid (PPA), was analyzed by rheological tests (viscosity and DSR), thermal analysis (TGA and DSC), spectrometric (NMR and FTIR) and chromatographic (TLC-FID and GPC) methods. The interaction of AC with PPA was investigated from the reactions of its fractions (aromat

The asphalt cement plays a major role in hot mix asphalts (HMA) by bonding the mineral aggregates and conferring impermeability. Despite the relatively small percentage of asphalt cement in hot mixes, the mechanical properties of asphalt layers are highly dependent on the quality of the binder. The physical and rheological properties of asphalt binders can b

In this dissertation methods to determine arsenic, lead, nickel and cadmium in food are described, more precisely in potato and manioc, grown in the Minas Gerais state territory in Brazil, which is also known as "Quadrilátero Ferrífero" (an area in the state where mining for ore and other metals is a current major economic activity). In the methods propose

In this work is described the methodology developments (optimization and validation) for direct quantification of Mn, Cu, Pb and Cr in breast milk without need of previous sample digestion following determination by furnace graphite atomic absorption spectrometry (GF AAS). For the development of methods for analysis of manganese and copper, monoethanolamine

7. Direct determination of lead in human urine and serum samples by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry and permanent modifiers

Use of permanent modifiers on tungsten coil for in situ trapping of hydrides of arsenic, selenium, antimony and mercury vapor and determination by atomic absorption.

This work describes a factorial design for the optimization of pyrolysis and atomization temperatures in ETAAS. As examples, Cd and Pb were determined using lower pyrolysis and atomization temperatures and Al and Mo with higher pyrolysis and atomization temperatures. Good results were obtained for Cd employing Rh (m o = 1.4 pg) as a permanent modifier with p

10. Characterization of complex mineral assemblages: Implications for contaminant transport and environmental remediation
Surface reactive phases of soils and aquifers, comprised of phyllosilicate and metal oxohydroxide minerals along with humic substances, play a critical role in the regulation of contaminant fate and transport. Much of our knowledge concerning contaminant-mineral interactions at the molecular level, however, is derived from extensive experimentation on m

11. Physical and functional association of SU(VAR)3-9 and HDAC1 in Drosophila
Modification of histones can have a dramatic impact on chromatin structure and function. Acetylation of lysines within the N-terminal tail of the histone octamer marks transcriptionally active regions of the genome whereas deacetylation seems to play a role in transcriptional silencing. Recently, the methylation of the histone tails has also been shown to be
