3. Study of tissue inflammatory response in different mice strains infected by dematiaceous fungi Fonsecaea pedrosoi
Abstract: Background: Diseases caused by melanized fungi include mycetoma, chromoblastomycosis and phaeohyphomycosis. This broad clinical spectrum depends on the dynamic interactions between etiologic agent and host. The immune status of the host influences on the development of the disease, as, an exemple. phaeohyphomicosis is more frequently observed in i

4. Mycetomas: an epidemiological, etiological, clinical, laboratory and therapeutic review
Abstract: Mycetoma is a chronic suppurative disease of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, characterized by a symptomatic triad: tumor, fistulas and grains. It can be caused by fungi (eumycetoma) and bacteria (actinomycetoma), with similar clinical features. Diagnosis is based on the clinical presentation and identification of the etiological agents in the tis

5. Two simultaneous mycetomas caused by Fusarium verticillioides and Madurella mycetomatis
ABSTRACT Mycetoma is a chronic granulomatous disease, classified into eumycetoma caused by fungi and actinomycetoma due to aerobic filamentous actinomycetes. Mycetoma can be found in geographic areas near the Tropic of Cancer. Mexico is one of the countries in which actinomycetoma is endemic. We report an extraordinary case of an adult male with double eumyc

6. Dermoscopy assisting the diagnosis of mycetoma: case report and literature review
Mycetomas are a chronic skin infection characterized by perilesional edema, formation of sinus tracts, and discharge of purulent or seropurulent exudate containing grains. This report aims to demonstrate the clinical diagnosis (by dermoscopy) of a skin lesion that initially bared no clinical features of a mycetoma.

9. Sinus maxillaris mycetoma of odontogenic origin: case report

10. Fever in aspergillus mycetoma
Two patients with aspergillus mycetoma presenting with fever as a major sign are described. The clinical presentation is correlated with the results of experimental inhalation of Aspergillus fumigatus extract in patients with aspergillus mycetoma. A theory is put forward which tries to explain fever and haemoptysis as belonging to a type III (Gell and Coombs

11. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for serological diagnosis of Nocardia brasiliensis and clinical correlation with mycetoma infections.
We previously identified three immunodominant antigens obtained from a Nocardia brasiliensis cell extract and recognized by sera from mycetoma patients (M. C. Salinas-Carmona, L. Vera, O. Welsh, and M. Rodríguez, Zentralbl. Bakteriol. 276:390-397, 1992). In the present work, we obtained a crude extract from a mass culture of N. brasiliensis HUJEG-1 and puri

12. Mycetoma of the Foot Caused by Fusarium solani: Identification of the Etiologic Agent by DNA Sequencing
We report a case of Fusarium solani mycetoma of the foot that could not be diagnosed by culture, but was correctly identified after amplification and sequence analysis of fungal internal transcribed spacers 1 and 2 and 5.8S ribosomal DNA regions.
