25. Deformation of Mitochondrial Cristae in Human Neural Progenitor Cells Exposed to Valproic Acid
ABSTRACT Neural development represents a dynamic process where mitochondrial integrity is decisive for neuronal activity. Structural changes in these organelles may be related to neurological disorders. Valproic acid (VPA) is an anticonvulsive drug commonly used for epilepsy treatment and its use is associated to increased risk of neuropsychiatric disorders.

26. Evaluation of membrane microfiltration fouling in landfill leachate treatment
ABSTRACT The membrane separation capacity allows the retention of the remaining organic matter that could not be removed by the biological process, increasing the treatment efficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microfiltration (MF) process in a tertiary treatment system for landfill leachate from the Rincão das Flores, Caxias do Sul/RS/Brazi

27. Effects of the application of the amniotic membrane in the healing process of skin wounds in rats
Abstract Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of the application of the human amniotic membrane (HAM) on the inflammatory process, fibroblast proliferation, formation of collagenand reduction of skin wound areas in rats. Methods: Thirty six rats were submitted to a surgical injury induction and divided into two groups (n = 18): group C (control) and T (trea

28. Wastewater treatment in a pilot-scale submerged membrane bioreactor: study of hydrodynamics under constant operating pressure
Abstract A pilot-scale Submerged Membrane Bioreactor provided with PEI hollow fiber membranes was operated under constant pressure mode in order to evaluate the effects of hydrodynamic conditions on the process performance, such as air flow rate, module packing density and aeration configuration. For the three different air flow rates studied (2, 5 and 8 L/m

29. Electroremediation of deactivated catalysts from fluidised catalytic cracking for vanadium removal - the effect of a dual cathode chamber reactor
Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the quantity of vanadium removed through electrokinetic remediation applied to catalyst waste used in a fluid catalytic cracking process. In excess, vanadium affects process efficiency by reducing the catalyst’s activity, causing deactivation and reducing its useful life in petroleum cracking during refining.

30. The Evaluation of Nosocomial Infections in Pediatric Patients with Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Support
Abstract Introduction: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has become a standard technique over the past few decades in intensive care unit (ICU). Objective: A review of pediatric patients who received ECMO support in the pediatric cardiac ICU was conducted to determine the incidence, risk factors and causal organisms related to acquired infections

31. Water deficit modifies the carbon isotopic composition of lipids, soluble sugars and leaves of Copaifera langsdorffii Desf. (Fabaceae)
ABSTRACT Water deficit is most frequent in forest physiognomies subjected to climate change. As a consequence, several tree species alter tissue water potential, gas exchange and production of carbon compounds to overcome damage caused by water deficiency. The working hypothesis, that a reduction in gas exchange by plants experiencing water deficit will affe

32. Strategy for Treating a Landfill Leachate by Integration of Physico-Chemical and Photo-Fenton Processes
This study reports a protocol for the treatment of a sanitary landfill leachate through integration between a stage of coagulation-flocculation, a step of filtration of the resulting suspension, and application of the photo-Fenton process using a ferrioxalate complex and solar irradiation. The best results for turbidity removal by coagulation-flocculation we

33. How does the nectar of stomata-free nectaries cross the cuticle?
ABSTRACT In many glandular structures, departure from the cell is only one step in the process of exudate release to the plant surface. Here the set of events that lead nectar to the external environment is presented and discussed mainly for stomata-free nectaries. After being synthesized, the nectar or some of its component needs to be released to the envir

34. Dynamic Response of Orthotropic Membrane Structure under Impact Load based on Multiple Scale Perturbation Method
Abstract This paper investigates the dynamic response of rectangular prestressed membrane subjected to concentrated impact load based on multiple scale perturbation method. The governing equations of motion of nonlinear vibration are derived based on the Föppl large deflection theory and Galerkin method. By introducing different time scales to consider the

35. The Evaluation of Process Parameters on Springback in V-bending Using the Flexforming Process
One of the most significant problems in bending sheet metals is the springback behavior caused by the elastic stress formed after the bending process. In this study, the effects of forming pressure, die angle and holding time on the springback behavior were experimentally investigated for V-bending using the flexforming process. Furthermore, springback behav

36. Anatomical and histological study of the liver and pancreas of two closely related mountain newts Neurergus microspilotus and N. kaiseri (Amphibia: Caudata: Salamandridae)
ABSTRACT Anatomical and histological examinations were conducted on the digestive glands of two closely related mountain newts, Neurergus microspilotus (Nesterov, 1916) and Neurergus kaiseri Schmidt, 1952. In N. microspilotus and N. kaiseri the major digestive glands comprise a very large liver and a small pancreas. In both species the liver has two distinct
