1. Lipid Profile of Human Milk in Different Lactation Stages Submitted to Pasteurization, Lyophilization and Spray-Drying Processes
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of pasteurization, lyophilization and spray-drying on the lipid profile of donated human milk (DHM) at different lactation stages. Nine frozen samples of colostrum, transitional and raw mature human milk (HM) were collected from the Human Milk Bank (HMB) of the Hospital Universitário de Maringá (HUM).

2. DETERMINAÇÃO DE MERCÚRIO EM FÍGADO DE TETRÁPODES MARINHOS POR ESPECTROMETRIA DE FLUORESCÊNCIA ATÔMICA ACOPLADA A GERAÇÃO DE VAPOR FRIO (CV-AFS) E ESPECTROMETRIA DE MASSA COM FONTE DE PLASMA INDUTIVAMENTE ACOPLADO (ICP-MS): UMA COMPARAÇÃO SISTEMÁTICA ENTRE AS DUAS TÉCNICAS
This study compares the techniques cold vapour atomic fluorescence spectrometry (CV-AFS) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for the determination of Hg in biological samples (hepatic tissue from marine tetrapods). Acid digestions were performed for the samples and aliquots of them were analysed by ICP-MS and CV-AFS. To minimize the Hg

3. Evaluation of the Lipid Quality of Lyophilized Pasteurized Human Milk for Six Months by GC-FID and ESI-MS
Human milk (HM) lipids provide about 50% energy and facilitate the transport and absorption of fat-soluble vitamins for infants, but their composition should be studied when the milk is processed. This study evaluated the lipid quality of lyophilized and vacuum-packed colostrum (C), transitional (T), and mature (M) HM for a period of 1, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150,

4. Influence of preservation methods on the bioactivity of mangaba (Hancornia speciosa Gomes) from the Brazilian savannah
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the behavior of the bioactive compounds and the antioxidant activity of raw mangaba fruit (Hancornia speciosa Gomes), in addition to the influence of preservation methods (freezing, lyophilization, and foam layer drying) on these biocompounds. Samples were evaluated for ascorbic acid, phenolic compound, and carotenoid c

5. Menthol-loaded PLGA Micro and Nanospheres: Synthesis, Characterization and Degradation in Artificial Saliva
Menthol-loaded PLGA micro/nanospheres were synthesized using the multiple emulsion/solvent evaporation technique. Parameters such as stirring rate, external surfactant content, PLGA/menthol weight ratio, solvent evaporation and lyophilization time were evaluated as well as the degradation of micro/nanospheres in an artificial saliva medium. The menthol/PLGA

6. Microencapsulation by lyophilization of carotenoids produced by Phaffia rhodozyma with soy protein as the encapsulating agent
Abstract Carotenoids are pigments that can be applied to food but they are unstable towards certain food intrinsic conditions, as well as processing ones. Microencapsulation is an alternative to increasing their stability. This study aimed to produce carotenoids by Phaffia rhodozyma crops and promote their microencapsulation by lyophilization with soy protei

7. Fatty acids profile of chia oil-loaded lipid microparticles
ABSTRACT Encapsulation of poly-unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)is an alternative to increase its stability during processing and storage. Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) oil is a reliable source of both omega-3 and omega-6 and its encapsulation must be better evaluated as an effort to increase the number of foodstuffs containing PUFAs to consumers. In this work chia

8. Synthesis, characterization and cytotoxicity of Chitosan/Polyvinyl Alcohol/Bioactive Glass hybrid scaffolds obtained by lyophilization
ABSTRACT One of the important research topics in tissue engineering is the development of optimum three-dimensional scaffolds for regeneration and growth of bone tissue. The scaffold developed should promote an initial biomechanical support, provide the formation, deposition and organization of the new organic matrix generated, and degrade proportionally to

9. THE USE OF A NOVEL ALDEHYDE-FUNCTIONALIZED CHITOSAN HYDROGEL TO PREPARE POROUS TUBULAR SCAFFOLDS FOR VASCULAR TISSUE ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS
In this work, porous tubular scaffolds were prepared from a novel water soluble aldehyde-functionalized chitosan (ALDCHIT) hydrogel, which was obtained by dissolving this chitosan derivative in water and using oxidized dextrose (OXDEXT) as the crosslinking agent at different ALDCHIT:OXDEXT mole ratios (10:1, 10:2 and 10:4). By increasing the amount of OXDEXT

10. 3D nanocomposite chitosan/bioactive glass scaffolds obtained using two different routes: an evaluation of the porous structure and mechanical properties
Porous synthetic substrates are developed through tissue engineering technologies to grow new tissue, restoring the function of tissue or an organ. For bone regeneration, these scaffolds must support the dynamic load exerted on this tissue, achieved primarily by increasing their compression strength, as established in the literature. The aim of this paper wa

11. Variation of Hydroxyapatite Content in Soft Gelatin Affects Mesenchymal Stem Cell Differentiation
Gelatin is a common material used in tissue engineering and hydroxyapatite (HA) has a composition and structure similar to natural bone mineral. HA is also used to increase the adhesion ability of scaffolds. The physical and mechanical properties of gelatin, together with the chemical properties of HA, can affect cell differentiation. The main purpose of thi

12. Lyophilized allografts without pre-treatment with glutaraldehyde are more suitable than cryopreserved allografts for pulmonary artery reconstruction
Various methods are available for preservation of vascular grafts for pulmonary artery (PA) replacement. Lyophilization and cryopreservation reduce antigenicity and prevent thrombosis and calcification in vascular grafts, so both methods can be used to obtain vascular bioprostheses. We evaluated the hemodynamic, gasometric, imaging, and macroscopic and micro
