2. Community structure of lice (Insecta: Phthiraptera) from two sympatric gull species: kelp gull (Larus dominicanus) and Franklin's Gull (Larus pipixcan) in Talcahuano, Chile
A total of 1,177 lice of four species were collected from 124 kelp gulls (Larus dominicanus) and 137 lice of the same four species from 60 Franklin's gulls (Larus pipixcan). The louse Saemundssonia lari (O Fabricius) (Phthiraptera: Philopteridae) was the most numerous on both gull species, with infestation rates of 4.9 on kelp gulls and 1.8 on Franklin's gul

4. "Royal" pediculosis in Renaissance Italy: lice in the mummy of the King of Naples Ferdinand II of Aragon (1467-1496)
Pediculosis seems to have afflicted humans since the most ancient times and lice have been found in several ancient human remains. Examination of the head hair and pubic hair of the artificial mummy of Ferdinand II of Aragon (1467-1496), King of Naples, revealed a double infestation with two different species of lice, Pediculus capitis, the head louse, and P

Annona squamosa is a common tree popularly know as âataâ. In the folk medicine is used for treatment of stomach diseases, headache, diarrhea and for removal of louse. Phytochemical investigation of EtOH and hexanic extraction using chromatographic techniques allowed identification of kaurenoic acid an 16b, 17-Dihidroxy-ent-kauran-19-oic acid. Derivative of

7. Embryonic development of human lice: rearing conditions and susceptibility to spinosad
The embryonic development of human lice was evaluated according to the changes in the morphology of the embryo observed through the transparent chorion. Based on ocular and appendage development, three stages of embryogenesis were established: early, medium, and late. Influence of temperature and relative humidity (RH) on the laboratory rearing of Pediculus

The freshwater fish louse Dolops carvalhoi is an ectoparasite of pacu, Piaractus mesopotamicus capable of causing substantial damage to its hosts. The aim of this study was to investigate some aspects of the host-parasite interaction between these two species. For this purpose the physiological and morphological responses and the participation of the non-ada

Biological control of the wheat louse Sitobion avenae (Fabricius 1775) by the parasite Aphidius colemani (VIEREK 1912) in the city of Medianeira, ParanÃ, Brazil / Controle biolÃgico do pulgÃo de trigo Sitobion avenae (Fabricius 1775) pelo parasitÃide Aphidius colemani Viereck, 1912 em Medianeira, PR, Brasil
Historically, aphids were the main phytosanitary problem in the production of winter cereals in de 70âs in southern Brazil. Attacking intensively during wheatâs emergence to the affiliation, itâs usually fatal to the plant. 11. Louse infestation of the Chiribaya Culture, Southern Peru: variation in prevalence by age and sex
In order to improve the interpretive potential of archaeoparasitology, it is important to demonstrate that the epidemiology of ancient parasites is comparable to that of modern parasites. Once this is demonstrated, then we can be secure that the evidence of ancient parasitism truly reflects the pathoecology of parasitic disease. Presented here is an analysis
