1. Brasília : as controvérsias da utopia modernista na cidade das palavras
Brasilia: the controversies of the modernist utopia in the city of words is a research that seeks to cause the emergence of the real city from the city of words. It is here that the juxtaposing of sociological discourse in harmony with the literary discourse allows the unveiling of Brasilia: the modernist city. In an attempt to establish a reading of the cit

2. Os bastidores do processo de ensino de português em contextos multilingües: o caso de Côte d Ivoire
The present research is qualitative and interpretivist in its nature and has as its main objective to bring to light the conditions for the teaching and learning of Portuguese as a Foreign Language in the Côte dIvoire, particularly at the University of Abidjan- Cocody, initiated as a program a little over a decade ago. The education of foreign languages had

A pes

4. Crescimento e atividade fotossintetica em duas especies de lianas de uma floresta estacional semidecidual
The lianas are copious in natural and man-made clearings and it appears that these forms of life require high irradiance for development and growth. Lianas are rooted in the soil and use other plants, especially trees as support. Since these plants begin their growth on the forest floor, then ascend to the canopy, they can experience extreme differences in r

5. Ecologia de populações de Lytocaryum hoehnei (Burret) Toledo (Arecaceae) na Reserva Florestal do Morro Grande, Cotia, SP
The present study has investigated aspects of the natural history and ecology of palm Lytocaryum hoehnei. The palms were accompanied in three sites at the Reserva Florestal do Morro Grande, Cotia, SP, approximately 4 km apart from each other, during 2000, 2001, and 2002. Four ontogenetic stages were identified: 1) seedling: individuals with entire leaves, 2)

6. Inhibitory Effect of Light on Growth-Supporting Properties of Eosin Methylene Blue Agar
Exposure of eosin methylene blue agar to visible light can alter the ability of that medium to support microbial growth. Proteus species were most sensitive to the photodynamic action.

7. Light-dependent channels from excised patches of Limulus ventral photoreceptors are opened by cGMP.
The identity of the second messenger that directly activates the light-dependent conductance in invertebrate photoreceptors remains unclear; the available evidence provides some support for cGMP and Ca2+. To resolve this issue we have applied these second messengers to membrane patches excised from the light-sensitive lobe of Limulus ventral photoreceptors.

8. Patch-clamp recordings of the light-sensitive dark noise in retinal rods from the lizard and frog.
In cell-attached recordings from rods in the intact lizard retina, light decreased a standing inward membrane current with a reversal potential approximately 60 mV more positive than the resting potential. The peak amplitude of saturating responses depended upon the area of recorded membrane and varied from cell to cell over approximately 100-fold range. Sma

9. New types of Escherichia coli recombination-deficient mutants.
A set of Escherichia coli mutants deficient in intramolecular recombination and different from those previously found is described. All have temperature-sensitive lethal mutations. The mutants have been characterized with respect to the following properties: the Pap phenotype, deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis, sensitivity to ultraviolet light, ability to supp

10. Intracellular biochemical manipulation of phototransduction in detached rod outer segments.
Recent progress in understanding phototransduction has come primarily from studies on cell-free systems. To investigate the transduction process under physiological conditions, a fully functional preparation of retinal rod outer segments without attached inner segments was developed that allows electrical recording of light-sensitive current during intracell

11. Photosynthetic Independence of Light-induced Anthocyanin Formation in Zea Seedlings 1
Results are reported which support the view that the photosynthetic photosystems are not involved in the high irradiance response (HIR) phenomenon of light-dependent anthocyanin biosynthesis in dark-grown Zea mays L. seedlings. A negative correlation between change in greening rates and change in light-dependent anthocyanin accumulation rates with age was de

12. Blue light activates calcium-permeable channels in Arabidopsis mesophyll cells via the phototropin signaling pathway
Light is a central regulator of plant growth and development. Among the processes triggered by blue and UV-A light, phototropism, stomatal movement, and chloroplast orientation rely on the activation of blue-light receptors known as phototropins. So far, these photoreceptors constitute a class of light receptor kinases unique to the plant kingdom. In Arabido
