2. Whisker-mediated transformation of peanut with chitinase gene enhances resistance to leaf spot disease
Abstract Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) is an important legume and oilseed crop, native to South America and grown in all tropical and temperate regions of the world. A simplified and rapid direct gene delivery system in peanut was developed by vortexing silicon carbide whiskers with callus and with plasmid harboring chitinase and hygromcin genes. The effects of

3. Silicon, acibenzolar-S-methyl and potassium phosphite in the control of brown spot in rice
ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of silicon (Si), acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM), and potassium phosphite (Phi) on the potentiation of rice resistance to infection by Bipolaris oryzae. The treatments included the soil amended with Si (1.25 g of calcium silicate per kg of soil), spraying of plants with ASM (500 mg∙L–1), Phi (5 mL∙L–1), and dis

4. Chemical products induce resistance to
Xanthomonas perforans in tomatoThe bacterial spot of tomato, caused by
Xanthomonas spp., is a very important disease, especially in the hot and humid periods of the year. The chemical control of the disease has not been very effective for a number of reasons. This study aimed to evaluate, under greenhouse conditions, the efficacy of leaf-spraying chemicals (acibenzolarBraz. J. Microbiol.. Publicado em: 21/07/2015

5. Biological control of tomato bacterial spot by seed microbiolization
Six plant growth promoting rhizobacteria isolates - two Streptomyces (DFs1296 and DFs1315), three Bacillus (DFs1414, DFs1420 and DFs1423) and one Pseudomonas (DFs1421) - were used to microbiolize tomato seeds for the control of bacterial spot caused by Xanthomonas gardneri. Three assays were conducted in a completely randomized design with six replications.

6. PR-protein activities in table beet against Cercospora beticola after spraying chitosan or acibenzolar-S-methyl
Cercospora leaf spot (Cercospora beticola) is the most important disease of table beet in the world. In this study, the preventive application of chitosan or acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) to control the disease was evaluated, and the involvement of pathogenesis-related proteins in the plant-pathogen interaction was verified. Beet plants cultivar Early Wonder we

7. Efficiency of green manures for Cercospora leaf spot management in coffee plants
The use of Mucuna aterrima, Dolichos lab lab, Crotalaria mucronata, Arachis hypogaea, Mucuna deeringiana, C. spectabilis, and C. breviflora, intercropped with coffee plants, was evaluated as green manures in the management of Cercospora coffeicola under field conditions in Carlópolis and Jacarezinho counties in the state of Paraná in the crop seasons of 20

8. APLICAÇÃO DE FUNGICIDAS EM DIFERENTES ESTÁDIOS FENOLÓGICOS DA CULTURA DO MILHO (Zea mays) NO CONTROLE DE DOENÇAS
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of application timing of fungicides epoxiconazole + pyraclostrobin and azoxystrobin + cyproconazole in corn in the control of Phaeosphaeria leaf spot (Phaeosphaeria maydis), rust (Puccinia sorghi), Cercospora leaf spot (Cercospora zea-maydis), stain Diplodia (Diplodia macrospora) and stem rot. 9. Genetic control of the angular leaf spot reaction in common bean leaves and pods
Information about genetic control of plant reaction to pathogens is essential in plant breeding programs focusing resistance. This study aimed to obtain information about genetic control of the angular leaf spot reaction in leaves and pods from common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) line ESAL 686. This line was crossed with cultivars Jalo EEP 558 (resistant), C

11. ITS-rDNA phylogeny of Colletotrichum spp. causal agent of apple glomerella leaf spot.
Several diseases have affected apple production, among them there is Glomerella leaf spot (GLS) caused by Colletotrichum spp. The first report of this disease in apple was in plants nearby citrus orchards in São Paulo State, Brazil. The origin of this disease is still not clear, and studies based on the molecular phylogeny could relate the organisms evoluti
