A equa

14. Sobre o calculo de atenuação e de atividade em tomografia por emissão a partir de dados de atividade / Activity and attenuation reconstruction for emission computed tomography using emisssion data only
This thesis eals with the problem of estimating the attenuation from activity ata in emission computed tomography. We present several new methods aiming at solving the main rawback of the problem:the `crosstalk`between activity and attenuation images. The first group of methods is base on iteratively solving a regularized maximum likelihood model and the secon

15. On Some Periodic Toda Lattices
A discrete version of Floquet's theory is developed and applied to a system of non-linear differential equations related to the periodic Toda lattice. A special solution previously found by Toda is thus seen to fit into the formalism of inverse scattering problems.

16. Well-posed inverse spectral problems
It is known that if complete spectral data are provided, the potential function in a Sturm-Liouville operator is uniquely determined almost everywhere. If two such operators have spectra that differ in a finite number of eigenvalues, then the corresponding potential functions will no longer be the same. However, as is demonstrated when the nonidentical eigen
