1. Spectroscopic techniques combined with chemometrics to study organic matter in tropical soils with different degrees of pedogenetic evolution
Understanding of the organomineral interactions in soil can elucidate the humic substances (HS) formation and the humification process. This study aimed to structurally characterize the humic acids (HA) formed in tropical soils with different pedogenesis degrees. The HA fraction was extracted from soil samples in the superficial horizons of an Inceptisol and

2. Inhibition of Acetylcholinesterase by Coumarin-Linked Amino Acids Synthetized via Triazole Associated with Molecule Partition Coefficient
A previous study for the identification of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors demonstrated that the hybrid between tyrosol, the 1,2,3-triazole nucleus, and the coumarin group, namely 7-({1-[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl}methoxy)-4-methyl-2H-chromen-2-one (10), has a high enzyme inhibitory activity. Here, we synthesized analogues of 10 v

3. Effect of the application of ultrasound on sarcoplasmic proteins from giant squid (Dosidicus gigas) mantle
Abstract This research studies the application of ultrasound (US) on sarcoplasmic proteins from giant squid (Dosidicus gigas) mantle and its effect on its functional properties. US was applied during 30, 60 and 90 s. A decrease was observed in the emulsifying activity index (EAI), an increase in the emulsifying stability index (ESI), an increase in the foami

4. Self-Assembled Nanoparticles of Diruthenium(II,III)-Ibuprofen Anticancer Metallodrug
The diruthenium(II,III)-ibuprofen (RuIbp) metallodrug shows anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo. The encapsulation into lipid nanoparticles enhanced the efficacy in glioblastoma, breast and prostate cancer cells. Here we report data for RuIbp hydrophobicity, solubility in alcohol/water, and behavior in 1-5% ethanol/water and ethanol/cell culture medium.

5. Chemical and Spectroscopic Characteristics of Anthrosol (Amazonian Dark Earth) and Surrounding Soil from the Brazilian Amazon Forest: Evaluation of Mineral and Organic Matter Content by Depth
The chemical and spectroscopic characteristics of soil organic matter (SOM) isolated from Amazonian dark earth (ADE) and surrounding soil (SR) were evaluated according to the soil depth. The results showed opposite trends for the soils. While ADE featured SOM with a greater aromatic condensation degree and greater hydrophobicity in the top layer, the SR show

6. Preparation of glycosylated hydrolysate by liquid fermentation with Cordyceps militaris and characterization of its functional properties
Abstract This study aimed to investigate the potential of a novel preparation strategy for glycosylated hydrolysate by liquid fermentation in order to provide a high-quality glycosylated hydrolysate. Protein solubility, surface hydrophobicity and antioxidant activity were evaluated. The results of Fourier transform infrared spectra demonstrated the occurrenc

7. RNA editing in the chloroplast of Asian Palmyra palm (Borassus flabellifer)
Abstract We have identified 46 RNA editing sites located in 20 chloroplast (cp) genes of Borassus flabellifer (Asian Palmyra palm), family Arecaceae, and tested these genes for supporting phylogenetic study among the commelinids. Among the 46 sites, 43 sites were found to cause amino acid alterations, which were predicted to increase the hydrophobicity and t

8. In vitro evaluation of PVA gels loaded with Copaiba Oil and Duotrill®
Abstract Enrofloxacin can be slowly delivered through polymeric systems and the addition of oil could increase the polymeric gels hydrophobicity and help the continuous release. The present work intended to develop and characterize microstructurally (XRD and FTIR) and in vitro (swelling and antimicrobial tests) the PVA hydrogels loaded with copaiba oil and D

9. A Sustainable Methodology to Extract Bismuth from Secondary Sources
Bismuth is a critical metal broadly used in cosmetic, medicine and metallurgy. However, its scarcity in Earth’s crust may impair further applications. An alternative is to recover bismuth from secondary sources. In this work, a methodology to extract bismuth from safety valves of discharged gas cylinders is proposed. Extraction and purification of bismuth

10. Catalytic Transformation Conditions of Ethanol on Dealuminated BEA Zeolites
Catalysis is an important tool in obtaining a range of derivative products from renewable sources, such as ethanol. Solid-state dealumination using ammonium hexafluorosilicate on the BEA zeolite under the treatment at temperature of 190 °C, 70 mol% dealumination in the presence of humidity and washing with buffer solution at 25 °C generated larger pores. 12. Chitosan Imparts Better Biological Properties for Poly(ε-caprolactone) Electrospun Membranes than Dexamethasone
Poly(ε-caprolactone), an aliphatic polyester with biodegradability and cytocompatibility, has been used to create scaffolds for tissue engineering purposes. However, the hydrophobicity and low water absorptivity of poly(ε-caprolactone) reduce cell anchorage on their membranes. Here, poly(ε-caprolactone)-based scaffolds were prepared by electrospinning of
