1. Chemometric Study of the Antiproliferative Activity of Some New Hydantoin Derivatives: Assessment of Activity and Chromatographic Lipophilicity Data
Cancer is the major health problem affecting the mankind of today. Most of the drugs used in traditional chemotherapy are very limited and the discovery of novel, more active, more selective and less toxic ones is still very intensive. A chemometric approach was applied in the study of antiproliferative activity against human colon cancer and breast cance

2. Estudo computacional da hidantoÃna na forma isolada e seus dÃmeros
The hydantoin is commonly used in synthesis of medicaments which have a large pharmacological diversity. There are many papers in literature describing hydantoin derivates but there are few related with the isolated molecule. Thus, in this work we have performed B3LYP and MP2 calculations with the 6-31++G(d,p) basis set in order to obtain the geometric, ener

3. Estrutura, reatividade e propriedades biológicas de hidantoínas
Hydantoin (imidazolidine-2,4-dione) is a 2,4-diketotetrahydroimidazole discovered by Baeyer in 1861. Thiohydantoins and derivatives were prepared, having chemical properties similar to the corresponding carbonyl compounds. Some biological activities (antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, schistosomicidal) are attributed to the chemical reactivity and consequent aff

4. Estudos metodológicos visando a síntese da biotina a partir da hidantoína
Biotin (1), a member of the vitamin B complex group, has been an attractive synthetic target due to its biological activity and its applications in different fields such as immunology, radiotherapy and bioanalytical chemistry. In this thesis we report some experimental results for an alternative biotin synthesis, using hydantoin (146) as starting material. T

5. Ditiocarbamatos derivados do glicoluril, ácido úrico, ácido parabânico e hidantoína: compostos de coordenação e uso como inibidores de corrosão do bronze
This thesis work is about dithiocarbamates compounds, their synthesis, study and application as corrosion inhibitors. The dithiocarbamates herein studied were synthesized from four substances: glycoluril, uric acid, parabanic acid and hydantoin. The pro-ligands were synthesized through reaction with CS2 and NaOH, characterized via elemental analysis (CHN) an

6. Novas molÃculas imidazolidÃnicas: preparaÃÃo, determinaÃÃo estrutural e avaliaÃÃo da atividade anticonvulsivante
Epilepsy, one of the most frequent neurological afflictions in the man, is characterized by recurrent spontaneous seizures by excessive temporary neuronal discharges resulting in uncontrolled convulsion, requires special medical attention. Until moment, the epilepsy remains subtreated the spite of the advances in the development of drugs effective for the tr

7. Purification and characterization of the hydantoin racemase of Pseudomonas sp. strain NS671 expressed in Escherichia coli.
The hydantoin racemase gene of Pseudomonas sp. strain NS671 had been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. Hydantoin racemase was purified from the cell extract of the E. coli strain by phenyl-Sepharose, DEAE-Sephacel, and Sephadex G-200 chromatographies. The purified enzyme had an apparent molecular mass of 32 kDa as determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate

8. Crystallization of the hydantoin transporter Mhp1 from Microbacterium liquefaciens
Mhp1, a hydantoin transporter from M. liquefaciens, was purified and crystallized. Diffraction data were collected to 2.85 Å resolution; the crystal belonged to the orthorhombic space group P212121.

9. Allantoin transport in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is regulated by two induction systems.
We show that the allantoin transport system of Saccharomyces cerevisiae responds to two induction systems, one mediated by allophanate or its analog oxalurate and the other mediated by allantoin or its analog hydantoin acetate. The effects of the two inducers were additive in strain M85. Like other allantoin pathway genes, oxalurate-mediated induction of all

10. Molecular Cloning, Purification, and Biochemical Characterization of Hydantoin Racemase from the Legume Symbiont Sinorhizobium meliloti CECT 4114
Hydantoin racemase from Sinorhizobium meliloti was functionally expressed in Escherichia coli. The native form of the enzyme was a homotetramer with a molecular mass of 100 kDa. The optimum temperature and pH for the enzyme were 40°C and 8.5, respectively. The enzyme showed a slight preference for hydantoins with short rather than long aliphatic side chains

11. Poliovirus 2C region functions during encapsidation of viral RNA.
We have been exploring the mechanism of action of 5-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) methylhydantoin (hydantoin), an antiviral drug that inhibits the replication of poliovirus in culture. By varying the time of drug addition to infected cells, we found that the drug acts at a stage which is late in the replication cycle and subsequent to the step inhibited by guanidine.
