1. Silicon carbide hollow fiber membranes developed for the textile industry wastewater treatment
Abstract In order to reduce the impacts of the industrial effluent on the environment, silicon carbide hollow fiber membranes were prepared by the precipitation-immersion technique and sintered at 1450 and 1500 °C. The membranes were characterized by X-ray diffraction, their surface structure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and atomic forc

2. MODELING AND SIMULATION OF A VACUUM MEMBRANE DISTILLATION PLANT COUPLED WITH SOLAR ENERGY AND USING HELICAL HOLLOW FIBERS
Abstract This paper investigates the effect of operating conditions such as coil pitch, fiber diameter, distance between fiber and absorber internal wall and absorber diameter for a vacuum membrane installation coupled with solar energy and using helically coiled fiber to maximize the permeate flow rate. The model is based on a system of equations composed o

3. Polyethersulfone Hollow Fiber Membranes Developed for Oily Emulsion Treatment
Polyethersulfone (PES) hollow fiber membranes were produced, containing 3% of two types of clay (Brasgel PA - MMT and Cloisite NA - CLNa), in order to modify the characteristics of the polyethersulfone membrane. By means of the X-ray diffraction, it was possible to observe an exfoliated and/or partially exfoliated structure in the membranes containing clay.

7. Evaluation of membrane microfiltration fouling in landfill leachate treatment
ABSTRACT The membrane separation capacity allows the retention of the remaining organic matter that could not be removed by the biological process, increasing the treatment efficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microfiltration (MF) process in a tertiary treatment system for landfill leachate from the Rincão das Flores, Caxias do Sul/RS/Brazi

8. Wastewater treatment in a pilot-scale submerged membrane bioreactor: study of hydrodynamics under constant operating pressure
Abstract A pilot-scale Submerged Membrane Bioreactor provided with PEI hollow fiber membranes was operated under constant pressure mode in order to evaluate the effects of hydrodynamic conditions on the process performance, such as air flow rate, module packing density and aeration configuration. For the three different air flow rates studied (2, 5 and 8 L/m

9. Evaluation of mass transfer in a novel hollow fiber module design using an electrochemical technique
Abstract The mass transfer coefficient (K L ) determined using an electrochemical technique was used in this work as a parameter to evaluate the hydrodynamics of hollow fiber membrane modules. A new microfiltration module configuration was investigated, taking advantage of the hydrocyclone concept aimed at reducing the concentration of the polarization laye

10. RED WINE EXTRACT OBTAINED BY MEMBRANE-BASED SUPERCRITICAL FLUID EXTRACTION: PRELIMINARY CHARACTERIZATION OF CHEMICAL PROPERTIES.
ABSTRACT This study aims to obtain an extract from red wine by using membrane-based supercritical fluid extraction. This technique involves the use of porous membranes as contactors during the dense gas extraction process from liquid matrices. In this work, a Cabernet Sauvignon wine extract was obtained from supercritical fluid extraction using pressurized c

12. Polyimide hollow fiber membranes for CO2 separation from wet gas mixtures
Matrimid®5218 hollow fiber membranes were prepared using the dry-wet spinning process. The transport properties were measured with pure gases (H2, CO2, N2, CH4 and O2) and with a mixture (30% CO2 and 70% N2) in dry and wet conditions at 25 ºC, 50 ºC, 60 ºC and 75 ºC and up to 600 kPa. Interesting values of single gas selectivity up to 60 ºC (between 31
