1. Hemocidinas derivadas da hemoglobina: estruturas, propriedades e perspectivas
The increasing incidence of microbial infections, high toxicity, and high level of resistance associated with conventional antibiotics has created a need for new drugs. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) constitute a promising alternative and/or an important source of knowledge given their ability to inhibit the growth and/or to kill bacteria, fungi, parasites an

2. Isolamento e caracterização de peptídeos antimicrobianos derivados da digestão da hemoglobina em Rhipicephalus (Boophilus microplus) / Isolation and characterization of antimicrobial peptides produced during hemoglobin digestion on Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus.
The hemoglobin posses a great potential as an antimicrobial, being denominated hemocidins the antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) derived from heme containing proteins. The cattle tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus is capable of processing large amounts of blood to its own metabolism. In this work we purified the hemocidins that are produced in the tick gut.
