1. EVALUATION OF THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND STRUCTURE OF ASPHALTENES FROM THREE OFFSHORE BRAZILIAN BIODEGRADED HEAVY OILS
Asphaltenes fractions were extracted and purified from three heavy Brazilian oils. Their mass compositions of C, H, N, Ni and V were obtained from elemental analysis and S and O atomic percentages from EDS. The H/C ratios showed high degree of unsaturation, while the O atomic percentages indicated more pronounced biodegradation effects on two samples. Quanti

2. Recent Developments on the Elucidation of Colloidal Aspects of Asphaltenes and Their Relevance to Oilfield Problems
Asphaltenes constitute the heavy petroleum fraction responsible for deposition events that may lead to reduced oil production, therefore of great interest for flow assurance. These molecules self-assemble in solutions leading to formation of aggregates that eventually grow towards precipitation and blockages in reservoirs and pipelines. Based on the Yen-Mull

3. Investigation of Physicochemical Characteristics of Heavy, Medium and Blend Crude Petroleum on Corrosion Resistance of AISI 1020 Carbon Steel
This work investigates the influence of the physicochemical characteristics of heavy (17.5 °API), medium (28.3 °API) and blend (50% heavy + 50% medium) crude petroleum on corrosion of AISI 1020 carbon steel at 25.0 ± 1.0°C. The corrosion resistance of steel was analyzed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization, and scanning

4. Droplet Size Distribution in Water-Crude Oil Emulsions by Low-Field NMR
This paper reports the droplet size distribution (DSD) measurements in 28 W/O (water/oil) crude oil emulsions prepared with two Brazilian oils (medium and heavy) under different shear conditions using both 10 g L-1 NaCl solution and water production by low field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR, 2.2 MHz). The PFGSTE (pulsed-field gradient-stimulated echo) pul

5. EVALUATION OF DISTILLATION CURVES FOR BIO-OIL OBTAINED FROM THERMAL CRACKING OF WASTE COOKING OIL
ABSTRACT Bio-oil obtained from thermal cracking of waste cooking oil (WCO) is a complex mixture of different chemical compounds and, like crude oil, it is composed mainly of hydrocarbons. The large number of compounds in bio-oil leads to complex and expensive methods for its properties determination. In this study, the distillation curves were constructed fo

7. Influence of Niobium and Molybdenum on Mechanical Strength and Wear Resistance of Microalloyed Steels
The HSLA (High-Strength Low Alloy) steels are used in the production of pipes, flanges and connectors to build ducts for ore, oil and gas transport. The conventional processes are the rolling or forging. In the transport of ore and heavy oil, the abrasive particles impair the surfaces and reduce the pipelines lifetime. Therefore, besides the mechanical prope

8. Least limiting water range for oil palm production in Amazon region, Brazil
ABSTRACT In areas cultivated with oil palm, typically mechanized field operations using heavy vehicles may negatively affect soil physical properties and productivity. The aim of this study was to evaluate soil physical quality in an area cultivated with oil palm by monitoring the temporal variation of the soil water content and relating it to the critical l

9. Effects of Different Amounts of Blue Lupine (L. Angustifolius L.) in The Diets of Heavy-Type Turkeys on Their Growth Rate, Carcass and Meat Qualities
ABSTRACT A study was carried out to determine the effects of soybean meal replacement with different amounts of blue lupine in the diets of turkeys on the growth rate, anatomic carcass dissection data, chemical indicators of breast and thigh muscles and the content of tryptophan and oxyprolin. In total three hundred and sixty cross BIG-6 turkeys were allotte

10. Evaluación De La Influencia De Las Condiciones De Fondo De Pozo En El Deterioro De Un Acero API P110, En Ambientes Simulados Del Proceso De Combustión In Situ, Por Gravimetría Y EIS
ABSTRACT Given the large amount of consumption of oil as an energy source, is resulting in a diminution in the existing world oil, the exploitation of heavy oil emerges as new alternative extraction is left aside because of the difficulties associated to processing. Therefore the in situ combustion process is an extraction method that facilitates production

11. TUNING OF MODEL PREDICTIVE CONTROL WITH MULTI-OBJECTIVE OPTIMIZATION
Abstract Two multi-objective optimization based tuning methods for model predictive control are proposed. Both methods consider the minimization of the error between the closed-loop response and an output reference trajectory as tuning goals. The first approach is based on the ranking of the outputs according to their importance to the plant operation and it

12. INTERFACIAL ENERGY DURING THE EMULSIFICATION OF WATER-IN-HEAVY CRUDE OIL EMULSIONS
Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the interfacial energy involved in the production of water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions composed of water and a Brazilian heavy crude oil. For such purpose an experimental set-up was developed to measure the different energy terms involved in the emulsification process. W/O emulsions containing different water volu
