17. Caracterização de genótipos G de rotavírus do grupo A circulantes no Distrito Federal
Rotaviruses are characterized by a high genetic diversity. Such diversity has potential implication on the epidemiology of acute infectious diarrhea. This work aimed to describe the variability of G genotypes from group A rotaviruses circulating in the Federal District, Central Brazil. One hundred and three fecal samples kindly provided by the Public Health

18. Molecular characterization of DDX26, a human DEAD-box RNA helicase, located on chromosome 7p12
DEAD-box proteins comprise a family of ATP-dependent RNA helicases involved in several aspects of RNA metabolism. Here we report the characterization of the human DEAD-box RNA helicase DDX26. The gene is composed of 14 exons distributed over an extension of 8,123 bp of genomic sequence and encodes a transcript of 1.8 kb that is expressed in all tissues evalu

19. Genotyping of group A rotavirus samples from Brazilian children by probe hybridization
The G genotyping of 74 group A rotavirus samples was done by RNA-DNA hybridization (dot-blot) using oligonucleotide probes for the VP7 gene region of the human rotavirus serotypes/genotypes 1, 2, 3 and 4. Thirty-one samples could be genotyped by dot-blot showing the following results: G1 = 16, G4 = 6, G3 = 5, and G2 = 4. The data show circulation of genotype

20. Genetic relatedness among human rotavirus genes coding for VP7, a major neutralization protein, and its application to serotype identification.
Antigenic characterization of human rotaviruses by plaque reduction neutralization assay has revealed four distinct serotypes. The outer capsid protein VP7, coded for by gene 8 or 9, is a major neutralization protein; however, studies of rotaviruses derived from genetic reassortment between two strains have confirmed that another outer capsid protein, VP3, i

21. Reassortant rotaviruses containing structural proteins vp3 and vp7 from different parents induce antibodies protective against each parental serotype.
Genetic studies of reassortant rotaviruses have demonstrated that gene segments 4 and 9 each segregate with the serotype-specific neutralization phenotype in vitro. Reassortant rotaviruses derived by coinfection of MA-104 cells with the simian strain SA11 and the antigenically distinct bovine strain NCDV were used to determine which viral genes coded for pro

22. Infection immunity of piglets to either VP3 or VP7 outer capsid protein confers resistance to challenge with a virulent rotavirus bearing the corresponding antigen.
A single-gene substitution reassortant 11-1 was generated from two porcine rotaviruses, OSU (serotype 5) and Gottfried (serotype 4). This reassortant derived 10 genes, including gene 4 encoding VP3, from the OSU strain and only gene 9, encoding a major neutralization glycoprotein (VP7), from the Gottfried strain and was thus designated VP3:5; VP7:4. Oral adm

23. Vaccinia virus recombinants expressing the SA11 rotavirus VP7 glycoprotein gene induce serotype-specific neutralizing antibodies.
A cDNA copy of the gene coding for the major outer neutralizing protein (VP7) of simian 11 rotavirus was incorporated into the vaccinia virus genome under the control of the vaccinia promoter (molecular weight, 7,500). A deletion mutant of this gene which codes for a secreted form of VP7 when expressed under the control of the simian virus 40 late promoter (

24. Comparative amino acid sequence analysis of VP4 for VP7 serotype 6 bovine rotavirus strains NCDV, B641, and UK.
In a previous study (S. Zheng, G. N. Woode, D. R. Melendy, and R. F. Ramig, J. Clin. Microbiol. 27:1939-1945, 1989), it was predicted that the VP7 serotype 6 bovine rotavirus strains NCDV and B641 do not share antigenically similar VP4s. In this study, gene 4 and the VP7 gene of B641 were sequenced, and the amino acid sequences were deduced and compared with
