2. Metallurgical Characterization of API X65 Steel Joint Welded by MIG Welding Process with Axial Magnetic Field
In this work, API X-65 pipeline steel non-conventionally heat treated, to enhance its mechanical resistance, was welded using the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) process with and without the application of low intensity axial magnetic fields (6 mT). Microstructural and mechanical characterization of the welds revealed that the use of the magnetic field during welding

3. Discerning the Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of API X65 Steels Under Sequence Loading
Abstract This paper presents the effect of sequence loading on fatigue crack growth of API X65 steel tested in room temperature. Most of pipeline steels are subjected to wide spectrum of loading during the length of service. Influence of load history effect can cause a trickier assessment to the fatigue behaviour. The objective of this study is to determine

4. Residual Stress Evaluation by X-Ray Diffraction and Hole-Drilling in an API 5L X70 Steel Pipe Bent by Hot Induction
The API 5L X70 steel is used in high-pressure gas transmission pipelines. Because of this, knowledge of presence of residual stress and their magnitude is important to assess the material integrity in service. For the pipeline manufacturing, tubes need to be curved which is often made using the hot induction bending process. This process can introduce differ

5. Guide for Recommended Practices to Perform Crack Tip Opening Displacement Tests in High Strength Low Alloy Steels
Abstract: Fracture mechanics approach is important for all mechanical and civil projects that might involve cracks in metallic materials, and especially for those using welding as a structural joining process. This methodology can enhance not only the design but also the service life of the structures being constructed. This paper includes detailed considera

6. Influence of Hydrogenation on Residual Stresses of Pipeline Steel Welded Joints
Hydrogen embrittlement is a phenomenon that affects the performance of steel used for oil and gas pipelines. This paper presents a study of the effect of hydrogenation on the residual stresses of an API 5L X65 steel pipe. Residual stresses were analyzed by X-ray diffraction technique using the sin2Ψ method. The hydrogenation of base metal and welded joint s

7. Principal environmental impacts on pipeline tracks as a result of mining operations and their mitigated actions
Abstract This study deals with the main environmental impacts and possible mitigation measures for many pipeline tracks, due to the mining of different substances in areas of interference between mining activities and mineral research and those resulting from construction and gas pipeline operation. By monitoring the identified interferences/disturbances, it

8. Malaria in the State of Amazonas: a typical Brazilian tropical disease influenced by waves of economic development
In Brazil, more than 99% of malaria cases are reported in the Amazon, and the State of Amazonas accounts for 40% of this total. However, the accumulated experience and challenges in controlling malaria in this region in recent decades have not been reported. Throughout the first economic cycle during the rubber boom (1879 to 1912), malaria was recorded in th

9. Study of Pipeline Steels with Acicular Ferrite Microstructure and Ferrite-bainite Dual-phase Microstructure
Three kinds of X70 steels with the same chemical composition and different microstructures fabricated by varying processes were compared in aspect of the microstructures and mechanical properties using SEM, TEM and tensile testing machine. The experimental results showed that the steel 1 with acicular ferritic microstructure fabricated by thermal-mechanical

10. Detection and on-line prediction of leak magnitude in a gas pipeline using an acoustic method and neural network data processing
Considering the importance of monitoring pipeline systems, this work presents the development of a technique to detect gas leakage in pipelines, based on an acoustic method, and on-line prediction of leak magnitude using artificial neural networks. On-line audible noises generated by leakage were obtained with a microphone installed in a 60 m long pipeline.

12. Detecção e localização de vazamentos em tubulações utilizando sistemas acústicos e redes neurais / Leak detection and location in pipelines through acoustic method and neural networks
Pipeline networks are complex systems of ducts used nowadays for gas and chemical products transporting through long distances. They frequently cross highly populated regions, water supplies or natural reserves. Even small leaks in pipelines can lead to great losses of products and serious damages to the environment before it could be detected. With the purp
