1. Curcumin exerts anti-inflammatory and vasoprotective effects through amelioration of NFAT-dependent endothelin-1 production in mice with acute Chagas cardiomyopathy
BACKGROUND The anti-inflammatory and cardioprotective properties of curcumin (Cur), a natural polyphenolic flavonoid isolated from the rhizomes of Curcuma longa, are increasingly considered to have beneficial effects on the progression of Chagas heart disease, caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of oral t

2. Indução do promotor GmNAC6 por elicitores de estresses e mapeamento de regiões reguladoras / Induction of the promoter GmNAC6 by elicitors of stress and mapping of regulatory regions
NAC domain-containing proteins are unique to plants and comprise a large gene family of transcriptional factors implicated in diverse aspects of plant development and stress responses. The GmNAC6 was recently identified as a downstream component of the ER (endoplasmic reticulum) stress- and osmotic stress-induced NRP (N-rich proteins)-mediated cell death sig

3. Hemodynamic, morphometric and autonomic patterns in hypertensive rats - renin-angiotensin system modulation
BACKGROUND: Spontaneously hypertensive rats develop left ventricular hypertrophy, increased blood pressure and blood pressure variability, which are important determinants of heart damage, like the activation of renin-angiotensin system. AIMS: To investigate the effects of the time-course of hypertension over 1) hemodynamic and autonomic patterns (blood pres

4. DESENVOLVIMENTO DE MÉTODOS ANALÍTICOS ESPECTROLUMINESCENTES E ELETROFORÉTICOS PARA A DETERMINAÇÃO DE ALCALOIDES (BETA-CARBOLINAS, CAMPTOTECINA E DERIVADOS) DE INTERESSE FARMACOLÓGICO / DEVELOPMENT OF ANALYTICAL METHODS BASED ON LUMINESCENCE AND ELECTROPHORESIS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF ALKALOIDS (BETA-CARBOLINES, CAMPTOTHECIN AND DERIVATIVES) OF PHARMACOLOGICAL INTEREST
Analytical methods were developed for the selective determination of alkaloids of pharmacological interest. Aiming the selective determination of camptothecin (CPT) in irinotecan (CPT-11) or topotecan (TPT) based pharmaceutical formulations, two spectrofluorimetric methods and one electrophoretic method with absorciometic detection were proposed. The spectro

5. Cytomegalovirus and Toxoplasma gondii seroprevalence in a Brazilian liver transplant waiting
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in solid organ transplantation. Disseminated toxoplasmosis after liver transplantation is a rare but fatal event. Serologic screening of the donor and the recipient is essential to prophylactic management, early diagnosis and therapeutic strategies to minimize the consequences of these

6. CHLOROPHYLL A DETERMINATION IN MARINE WATER BY FLUORESCENCE / MEDIDAS DA CLOROFILA A EM ÁGUAS MARINHAS POR FLUORESCÊNCIA
Chlorophyll a is a key-compound in the process of light absorption in the photosynthesis. Monitor the chlorophyll a fluorescence to obtain information about the photosynthetic apparatus of energy production is attractive because the chlorophyll a fluorescence could be detected without destruction of the source. Studies performed by the Laboratório de Hidrob

7. Fração histonica nuclear rica em histona H5 : isolamento, caracterização, orientação macromolecular e interação com DNA
This thesis deals with structural aspects of an H IND. 5 histone rich fraction ( H IND. 5 RF), as well as its importance in the chromatin structure. H IND. 5 RF was extracted from chicken erythrocyte nuclei. Some intrinsic characteristics of H IND. 5 RF a few differenciating qualities in relation to the H IND. 1 histone of the calf thymus were determined by

8. Influencia de esteroides sexuais sobre o conteudo histaminico do miocardio de cães
It hás been demosntrated that histamine depletion in an isquemic myocardial area, respect to normal myocardium, appears higher in bitches than in dogs. It has been also show that histamine depletion occurs in the rat uterus as an obligatory step in sex hormone-induced hyperemia. The hypothesis was then advanced that histamine could be consumed in the isquem

9. Non-invasive assessment of the donor corneal endothelium using ocular redox fluorometry.
AIMS: To investigate the usefulness of ocular redox fluorometry for evaluating donor corneal endothelial viability. METHODS: Corneas from 42 recipients of penetrating keratoplasty and four donor corneas were examined by ocular redox fluorometry. Autofluorescence from reduced pyridine nucleotides (PN) and oxidised flavoproteins (Fp) of the human corneal endot

10. Time-resolved fluorometry for the identification of viral DNA in clinical specimens.
Time-resolved fluorometry was used for the detection of DNA probes labeled directly with europium (Eu3+) chelate. The sensitivity of this nonisotopic hybridization assay was 100 pg of homologous DNA. Equivalent results with reference tests were obtained in the detection of adenoviruses in clinical specimens.

11. Detection of adenovirus in clinical specimens by polymerase chain reaction and liquid-phase hybridization quantitated by time-resolved fluorometry.
In addition to tests for the group-specific hexon antigen of adenoviruses, adenoviruses can be detected in clinical specimens by hybridization assays utilizing the widely shared base sequences of the region of the hexon gene that codes for the group-reactive determinants. We have developed a liquid-phase hybridization system with biotin- and europium-labeled
