13. AVALIAÇÃO VESTIBULAR NO RECÉM-NASCIDO DE TERMO / VESTIBULAR ASSESSMENT IN TERM NEWBORNS
A transverse study in term newborns was made to determine the occurrence of motor responses and possible asymmetries during the stimulation of the vestibular system through the head turning after release from the midline and passive rotation. From October to December of 2005, 320 neonates were admitted to the Adjacent Lodgings of the University Hospital of S

14. Componentes oculares em anisometropia / The ocular components in anisometropia

15. Evaluation of retropreparations carried out with smooth ultrasound, diamond coated and no polished tips / "Avaliação de retropreparos confecionados por pontas de ultra-som lisas, diamantadas e despolidas"
Given the advantages of the use of ultrasound in the preparation of retrograde cavities, the present study evaluated the smooth, diamond -coated and use of no polished tips regarding the time required for the preparation of cavities, the presence of dirt and the penetration of the 0,2% rhodamine dye solution. After the apicectomy and endodontic treatment of

16. Estimativas de parâmetros genéticos de características de carcaças feitas por ultra-sonografia em bovinos da raça Nelore / Genetic parameters for carcass traits measured trough ultrasound in Nelore cattle
This research was conducted to estimate variance components and genetic parameters of carcass traits of Nelore cattle, measured through ultrasound equipment, and also the genetic relationship of those traits with growth traits and visual scores. Data came from three different herds. 1,696 animals were measured in two farms owned by Agro-Pecuaria CFM Ltda. (h

17. Adrenaline dacryolith: detection by ultrasound examination of the nasolacrimal duct.
A 73-year-old woman on topical pilocarpine and adrenaline for chronic simple glaucoma for three years presented with a mass in the medial canthus of the right eye. Although dacryocystography showed a dilated and partially obstructed nasolacrimal system, ultrasound examination was able to demonstrate a mass in the nasolacrimal duct. At operation a black dacry

18. Ultrasonic examination in severe diabetic eye disease.
B-scan ultrasound of the posterior segment is reported in 154 patients with severe diabetic eye disease. Epiretinal fibrosis, vitreous haemorrhage, vitreous detachment, and retinal detachment were frequently diagnosed. The ultrasonic findings are discussed in relation to the pathological changes in the vitreous in proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

19. Colour Doppler ultrasound in the management of a case of cranial arteritis.
Colour Doppler ultrasound allows simultaneous B scan and Doppler imaging and can be employed to determine the velocity of blood flow in the vasculature of the eye and orbit. We describe a case of cranial arteritis (giant cell arteritis) in which serial velocimetry recordings were obtained. At one stage in the disease process no blood flow was detectable in t

20. Periocular migration of an intraocular lens.
A woman presented with a painful eye 6 weeks after cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation. In the past she had had a sector iridectomy for iris bombé caused by chronic anterior uveitis. On examination the three central corneal sutures were absent, whilst the medial and lateral sutures had broken and were protruding from the section. The eye w

21. Ciliary body melanoma with optic nerve invasion.
A case of melanoma of the ciliary body is presented. Initially the patient was diagnosed and treated for uveitis, but following CT scanning and ultrasound a tumour was detected and the eye enucleated. Histopathologically it was found that the tumour had invaded the optic nerve head, apparently via Cloquet's canal.

22. Experimental posterior penetrating eye injury in the rabbit. I. Method of production and natural history.
A technique has been developed which produces an experimental posterior penetrating eye injury that reproducibly results in traction retinal detachment in rabbit eyes. The standard injury is an incision through the pars plana with vitreous prolapse and incarceration; the wound is then carefully closed with microsurgical techniques. It appears that blood in t

23. Reappraisal of the human ocular growth curve in fetal life, infancy, and early childhood.
AIMS: The aim of this study was to find an algorithm of better fit for early eye growth than the linear regression usually advanced. METHODS: The analysis is based on previously published around term data, the main material being axial ultrasound measurements in preterm (n = 101) and full term infants (n = 25). The postconceptional age of the infants ranged

24. Ciliary body enlargement and cyst formation in uveitis.
BACKGROUND: Acute anterior uveitis has diverse causes and systemic associations. Inflammation is predominantly localised to the iris and pars plicata. Little is known about the in vivo effects of uveitis on ciliary body anatomy. METHODS: Bilateral, high frequency, high resolution, ultrasound biomicroscopy was performed on consecutive patients with unilateral
