13. OTIMIZAÇÃO DAS CONDIÇÕES FERMENTATIVAS DE PICHIA MEMBRANIFACIENS PARA PRODUÇÃO DE ETANOL DE SEGUNDA GERAÇÃO
Technologies developed in the last decade have made viable the use of lignocellulosic materials for the production of ethanol. However, to improve the fermentative yield some improvements are necessary, among them the search for new microorganisms capable of fermenting sugars with five carbons. Thus, the present research aimed to determine the best pH and te

14. A SIMPLE EQUATION FOR TOTAL REDUCING SUGARS (TRS) ESTIMATION ON SWEET POTATO AND ETHANOL YIELD POTENTIAL
ABSTRACT Sweet potato is an attractive feedstock for ethanol production due to its high starch content and favorable agronomic characteristics. This paper proposes a simple equation to estimate the total reducing sugars (including glucose from starch) in sweet potatoes based on their moisture content (low cost and simple measurement). It allows the calculati

15. ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF YEAST STRAINS FROM SUGARCANE MOLASSES, DATES AND FIGS FOR ETHANOL PRODUCTION UNDER CONDITIONS SIMULATING ALGAL HYDROLYSATE
ABSTRACT Yeast strains were isolated from sugar cane molasses (S1), dates (S2) and figs (S3) and the ethanol production was evaluated in batch condition. A comparison was made with the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The strains showed tolerant characteristics to stressful conditions like salinity and ethanol. The isolated strains produced ethanol; at 20 h o

16. EXTRACTION OF BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS OF LEAVES OF Duguetia furfuracea (ANNONACEAE) USING GREEN AND ORGANIC SOLVENTS
ABSTRACT Duguetia furfuracea (Annonaceae) is a shrub found in the Brazilian Cerrado that is used in popular medicine as an antirheumatic, for wound healing, treatment of kidney pain and against pediculosis. The aim of this study was to analyze the extraction of leaves of Duguetia furfuracea, using supercritical CO2, ethanol and hexane as solvents. For the su

17. Optimizing the Extraction of Anthocyanins from the Skin and Phenolic Compounds from the Seed of Jabuticaba Fruits (Myrciaria jabuticaba (Vell.) O. Berg) with Ternary Mixture Experimental Designs
Total phenolic compounds (TPC) extraction from the seed and total monomeric anthocyanins (TMA) extraction from the skin of “Sabará” jabuticaba were optimized with simplex lattice designs for solvent mixing, and the extraction time was optimized by univariate design. The optimum conditions for the extraction method were ethanol:water (60:40 v/v) solvent

18. Liquid-liquid equilibria in aqueous two-phase ethanol/salt systems at different temperatures and their application to anthocyanins extraction
Abstract Aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) are formed by mixtures of chemical species that, under certain conditions, separate into two immiscible phases, with water as the major component in global terms and, at lower concentrations, polymers, salts, ionic liquids and alcohols, depending on the system type. Different parameters influence ATPS equilibrium suc

19. Deracemization of sec-Alcohols through Sequential Application of C. albicans and Ketoreductases
A biocatalytic cascade process was developed using immobilized cells of the wild type yeast Candida albicans CCT 0776 in calcium alginate beads and a commercially available ketoreductase. The aim was to promote deracemization by stereoinversion of (±)-1-arylethanols in high substrate concentration (above 100 mmol L-1) to prepare the (R)-enantiomers of the a

20. Sugarcane Root Development and Yield under Different Soil Tillage Practices
ABSTRACT New strategies for sugarcane production have been very important since the incorporation of ethanol in the Brazilian energy mix in the early 1970s. Prior to planting sugarcane, the soil is prepared, and this process can affect root development and, consequently, sugarcane production. This study was conducted in an area of sugarcane crop renewal in t

21. Insecticidal activities and mechanism of extracts from neem leaves against Oxya chinensis

22. Extraction and purification of astaxanthin from shrimp shells and the effects of different treatments on its content
Abstract In this study, the extraction process and purification technology of astaxanthin from shrimp shells were established, and the effects of different treatments on the content of astaxanthin were studied. The determination results of astaxanthin in various shrimp/crab shells showed that the astaxanthin content in the Procambarus clarkia shell reached 2

23. Genome sequence of the H2-producing Clostridium beijerinckii strain Br21 isolated from a sugarcane vinasse treatment plant
Abstract We report on the nearly complete genome sequence of Clostridium beijerinckii strain Br21, formerly isolated from a sugarcarne vinasse wastewater treatment plant. The resulting genome is ca. 5.9 Mbp in length and resembles the size of previously published C. beijerinckii genomes. We annotated the genome sequence and predicted a total of 5323 genes. S

24. Ultrasonic Extracts of Morinda citrifolia L.: Characterization of Volatile Compounds by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry
Morinda citrifolia (noni) is found in the Atlantic and Amazonian Forest in Brazil and with recognized uses in folk medicine. However, few studies exist in its chemical characterization. The present work aims to investigate the efficiency of the sonication for extracting bioactive compounds from fruits and leaves of noni, using an experimental design of 23, w
