13. Application of indices for water resource systems stress assessment

14. Impacts of climate change on drought: changes to drier conditions at the beginning of the crop growing season in southern Brazil
ABSTRACT The intensification of drought incidence is one of the most important threats of the 21st century with significant effects on food security. Accordingly, there is a need to improve the understanding of the regional impacts of climate change on this hazard. This study assessed long-term trends in probability-based drought indices (Standardized Precip

15. MILK PRODUCTION AS AN INDICATOR OF DROUGHT VULNERABILITY OF CITIES LOCATED IN THE BRAZILIAN SEMIARID REGION
ABSTRACT Several spectral indices have been used to estimate droughts, however, these indicators only give evidence of a dry spell leaving out its impacts on significant economic activities performed in a given region. In this context, livestock breeding in one of the most important activities to analyze in the Brazilian semiarid region. The aim of this stud

16. IDENTIFICATION OF DESERTIFICATION- SENSITIVE AREAS IN THE BRAZILIAN NORTHEAST THROUGH VEGETATION INDICES
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to identify areas susceptible to drought and under desertification in the Brazilian Northeast, more specifically in the states of Alagoas, Pernambuco, and Sergipe. The study was based on the 2000-2014 time period, relative frequency, Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) dataset derived from MOD13Q1 products (vegetation indices

17. Increasing the regional availability of the Standardized Precipitation Index: an operational approach
ABSTRACT The need to use a length of rainfall records of at least 30 years to calculate the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) limits its application in several Drought Early Warning Systems of developing countries. Therefore, in order to increase the number of weather stations in which the SPI may be applied, this study quantified the difference among S

18. Determinants of farmers’ adaptation to climate change: A micro level analysis in Ghana
ABSTRACT This study analyzed socio-economic factors that influence farmers’ adaptation to climate change in agriculture. Perceptions regarding long-term changes in climate variables and the rate of occurrence of weather extremes were also investigated. Additionally, farmers’ perceived barriers to the use of adaptation practices were identified and ranked

19. Expression profiles of sugarcane under drought conditions: Variation in gene regulation
Abstract Drought is a major factor in decreased sugarcane productivity because of the resulting morphophysiological effects that it causes. Gene expression studies that have examined the influence of water stress in sugarcane have yielded divergent results, indicating the absence of a fixed pattern of changes in gene expression. In this work, we investigated

20. Photosynthetic capacity and water use efficiency in sugarcane genotypes subject to water deficit during early growth phase
The objective of this study was to compare the gas exchange, photosynthetic capacity and water potential of sugarcane genotypes cultivated under water deficit conditions imposed during the initial growth phase. Experiments were performed in a greenhouse using two sugarcane genotypes namely: HoCP93-776 (drought susceptible) and TCP02-4587 (drought tolerant).

21. Climatic risk zoning for corn and palisade grass (Brachiaria brizantha cv: Marandu) cultivated in integrated crop-livestock systems in São Paulo state, Brazil
Climatic risk zoning allows the identification of areas of low risk of reduced crop productivity due to climatic events. In Brazil, losses to agriculture due to climate are mainly caused by drought. The objective of this research was to determine areas of low climatic risk for corn and palisade grass cultivated in integrated crop-livestock systems in Sao Pau

22. Adaptacao do feijoeiro (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) a seca. II. Produtividade e componentes agronomicos.

23. Genetic variation and interrelationships of agronomic characteristics in durum wheat under two constructing water regimes
This work aimed to study the grain yield components and plant characteristics related to grain yield. Twenty-four durum wheat genotypes from the ICARDA durum wheat breeding program were grown during 2006-2007 under rainfed and irrigated conditions using a complete randomized block design with three replicate in west of Iran. Correlation and path analysis wer

24. Calibração e avaliação do modelo ORYZA-APSIM para o arroz de terras altas no Brasil / Calibration and evaluation of the ORYZA-APSIM model for the upland rice in Brazil
With the purpose of calibrating and evaluating the ORYZA-APSIM model for the upland rice in Brazil, seventeen field experiments were carried out at EMBRAPA Arroz e Feijão, in four upland rice Brazilian regions (Santo Antônio de Goiás-GO, Sorriso-MT, Gurupi and Teresina-PI), from 2005/2006 to 2008/2009 seasons. The model was calibrated and evaluated for an
