5. Effects of antidiabetics and exercise therapy on suppressors of cytokine signaling-1, suppressors of cytokine signaling-3, and insulin receptor substrate-1 molecules in diabetes and obesity
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Pathological destruction of insulin signaling molecules such as insulin receptor substrate, especially due to the increase in suppressors of cytokine signaling molecules, has been demonstrated in experimental diabetes. The contribution of suppressors of cytokine signaling proteins to the development of insulin resistance and the effects o

6. Shear wave elastography in early diabetic kidney disease
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze the kidneys among the subjects with early stages of type 2 diabetic kidney disease by shear wave elastography quantitatively. METHODS: A total of 108 patients with type 2 diabetic kidney disease and 17 control subjects were enrolled. According to the estimated glomerular filtration rate and urinary albumin-to-

7. The Importance of HbA1c and Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction in Predicting the Development of Postoperative Mortality and Complications in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
Abstract Introduction: In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between postoperative mortality, morbidity, hospital stay and development of postoperative complications with the glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level and low left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in diabetic and non-diabetic patients who underwent elective coronary artery b

8. Evaluation of platelet indices and pro-inflammatory cytokines in type 2 diabetic patients with retinopathy
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate whether platelet parameters and pro-inflammatory cytokines associated with platelet activation could be surrogate markers of the diabetic retinopathy stages in type 2 diabetic patients. METHODS: This prospective case-control study included 108 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and 48 healthy contr

9. Astaxanthin protects against hearing impairment in diabetic rats
Abstract Objectives: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) causes an increase in oxidative stress that leads to deterioration in auditory functions. Astaxanthine (AST) is known to have strong antioxidant effects. In this study, the aim is to investigate the effect of AST against hearing loss that is due to DM. Methods: This study is an experimental animal study. The stud

10. Dexmedetomidine Leads to the Mitigation of Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion-Induced Acute Lung Injury in Diabetic Rats Via Modulation of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α
ABSTRACT Introduction: The objective of this study is to investigate the protective mechanism of dexmedetomidine (Dex) in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MIR)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) of diabetic rats by inhibiting hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α). Methods: Initially, healthy male Sprague Dawley rats were treated with streptozocin to induce d

11. Capillaroscopic appearance of nailfold vasculature of diabetic nephropathy patients
ABSTRACT Objectives: Diabetic nephropathy is a microvascular complication of diabetes and the most common cause of end-stage renal failure throughout the world. Videocapillaroscopy is a simple and noninvasive method that can display capillaries in the nail bed at the micron level. A few studies have been conducted on detecting retinopathy, another important

12. Relationship between frailty, according to three frail scores, and clinical and laboratory parameters of the geriatric patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The term “frailty in the elderly” has become increasingly important with the increase of the elderly population, especially in diabetic subjects. Frailty is established by various scoring scales, such as Edmonton, Frail, and Prisma-7 scores. We aimed to e
