1. SUGARCANE BASE CUTTING QUALITY USING RECTANGULAR AND CIRCULAR BLADES
ABSTRACT Sugarcane mechanized harvesting can lead to serious risks to the longevity of plantations when improperly operated, and may cause damages and disturbances in the remaining ratoons in the field. In this sense, this study aimed to evaluate the damage and disturbance to the sugarcane ratoons by the base cutting quality of two-blade models through stati

2. Budbreak induction in kiwifruit vines cultivated in an organic system by the biological method of single node cutting
ABSTRACT Kiwifruit vines are an alternative approach to diversify Brazilian fruit farming because of the low supply and increase in the demand for their fruits. Hydrogenated cyanamide, which is the most common rest-breaking agent, is highly toxic and its use is not allowed in organic production systems. This study aimed at evaluating the efficiency of altern

3. VEGETATIVE DEVELOPMENT AND GROWING DEGREE-DAYS OF TROPICAL AND WINTER FORAGES
ABSTRACT One of the limitations to producing irrigated forages is setting suitable biometric parameters to establish the entrance of animals to grazing areas. Such parameters can be measured or even estimated. Estimates are advantageous for being practical and able to be used for grazing optimization. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation among growin

4. Biomass accumulation and chemical composition of Massai grass intercropped with forage legumes on an integrated crop-livestock-forest system
The objective was to evaluate the use of woody legumes (Albizia lebbeck, Cratylia argentea, Dipteryx Allata (Baru), a Leucaena hybrid (L. leucocephala + L. diversifolia), and Leucaena leucocephalacv. Cunningham) and herbaceous legumes (Arachis pintoi) intercropped with Panicum maximum cv. Massai, simultaneously implanted in a maize crop. The study made use o

5. Energy substrate used by workers of leaf-cutting ants during nest excavation
Energy substrate used by workers of leaf-cutting ants during nest excavation. In this study we aimed to ascertain whether leaf-cutting ant workers lose body reserves (fat or sugars) as a function of nest excavation. For each treatment, we isolated 10 workers of Atta sexdens into two experimental groups, Control (C- without excavation) and Soil (S- with excav

6. Influence of core-finishing intervals on tensile strength of cast posts-and-cores luted with zinc phosphate cement
The core finishing of cast posts-and-cores after luting is routine in dental practice. However, the effects of the vibrations produced by the rotary cutting instruments over the luting cements are not well-documented. This study evaluated the influence of the time intervals that elapsed between the cementation and the core-finishing procedures on the tensile

7. IPR 126 white oat forage potential under free growth, cutting and grazing at two management heights
The experiment was carried out to evaluate the structural characteristics, biomass accumulation, chemical composition and in vitro digestibility of dry matter and crude protein of white oat (Avena sativa L. IPR 126) under different management systems. Grazing, cut at two heights (15 and 20 cm) and free growth were all evaluated in three periods (July, August

8. Performance of Lotus corniculatus L. genotypes submitted to cutting interval: subsidies to a breeding program
The objective of this work was to evaluate the response of five birdsfoot trefoil populations (Lotus corniculatus L.), selected under severe and intense grazing (P38, P37, P9 and P3) or cutting (population Corte), one rhizomatous population from Morocco and two cultivars, São Gabriel (Brazil) and ARS 2620 (USA), to different cutting intervals (20 and 40 day

9. Soil nitrate level variation under intensive nitrogen fertilized coastcross pasture.
Nitrate levels in soil profile after the first N application on coastcross pasture, grown on a dark red latosol (Hapludox), in Sao Carlos, SP, Brazil, under tropical altitude climate, were measured at 7-day intervals, to monitor possible losse in depth. Soil nitrate rates varied with high rates of N-ammonium nitrate (200kg ha per cutting) in surface layers.

11. Estudo dos esforços de corte no processo HSM aplicado à abertura de cavidades / Study of the cutting forces in HSM process applied to pocket milling
The manufacturing of a great number of components in the industry depends on molds and dies used in processes like forging, powder metallurgy, deep drawing, casting and plastic injection. One of the main operations for manufacturing of these parts corresponds to the opening of the initial pocket, from which more complex geometries are machined in order to ob
