1. Heterotrophic cultivation of Euglena gracilis on chemically pretreated media
Abstract In this research, the impact of chemical agents on the growth of Euglena gracilis and contaminants (S. cerevisiae and B. subtilis) in different cultivation media was studied. E. gracilis was cultivated on modified Hutner and complex medium in Erlenmeyer flasks and a stirred tank bioreactor. H2O2 and antimycin were used as suppressors of contaminant

2. Cultivation of the red algae Kappaphycus alvarezii in Brazil and its pharmacological potential
Kappaphycus alvarezii (Rhodophyta, Gigartinales) is a red algae widely cultivated as the main source of raw material for the carrageenan industry. This hydrocolloid is normally used in the food industry as a gelling and stabilizing agent. The facility of its commercial farming based on vegetative propagation promoted the success of the aquaculture of this ma

3. Limnological aspects of Little AÃudagem in Semiarid: Case Study of Dams Settlement May 25, Ce-Madalena / Aspectos limnolÃgicos da pequena aÃudagem no semiÃrido: estudo de caso dos aÃudes do Assentamento 25 de Maio, Madalena-Ce
The studies for small reservoirs in the semiarid northeast are still scarce, mainly in relation to water quality. This research aimed to discover the dynamic processes that occur in small reservoirs, to evaluate the multiple uses, the trophic state and water quality in small reservoirs representing the settlement on May 25. Carried out the systematic monitor

4. Micropropagation as a tool for sustainable utilization and conservation of populations of Rhodophyta
Micropropagation as a tool for sustainable utilization and conservation of populations of Rhodophyta. Micropropagation, or in vitro clonal propagation, allows the production of a large number of individuals within a short period. These micropropagated clones could be used as seedlings for seaweed cultivation, avoiding collection from natural beds. Consequent

5. Effects of nitrate and phosphate availabilities on growth, photosynthesis and pigment and protein contents in colour strains of Hypnea musciformis (Wulfen in Jacqu.) J.V. Lamour. (Gigartinales, Rhodophyta)
In Brazil, Hypnea musciformis is the main raw material for carrageenan production and the knowledge of nitrogen and phosphorus metabolism in algae is critical for the success of cultivation because these elements can limit seaweed productivity. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of nitrate (zero to 100 μM) and nitrate plus phospha

6. Cultivation of algae in photobioreator and obtention of biodiesel
In this work we described the cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris in a photobioreactor to algal biomass production. The dried biomass was used as feedstock for biodiesel production, it presented 26% lipids and via sonocatalysis stage of the methodology resulted in 60% of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). The FAME content was confirmed by Gas Chromatography (GC)

7. Produção de carotenoides: microrganismos como fonte de pigmentos naturais
Carotenoids are natural dyes synthesized by plants, algae and microorganisms. Application in many sectors can be found, as food dyeing and supplementation, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and animal feed. Recent investigations have shown their ability to reduce the risks for many degenerative diseases like cancer, heart diseases, cataract and macular degeneration

8. Presença de dinoflagelados bentônicos potencialmente tóxicos: identificação do perigo em áreas destinadas à maricultura na Baía de Sepetiba, RJ. / Presence of potentially toxic benthic dinoflagellates: identification of hazard in shellfish growing areas in the Sepetiba Bay, RJ.
The malacoculture (cultivation of shellfish) is the second most significant activity of the Brazilian mariculture, where the cultivation of bivalve molluscs (mussels, oysters and scallops) stands out nationally. The bivalves show an excellent nutritional value when they are used as food by humans, containing a great biological value of protein, low in fat, v

9. Os arranjos produtivos locais do turismo nas praias do Trairi - Ceará. / The local clusters of tourism on the beaches of Trairi - Ceará.

The release of carbohydrates by phytoplankton has been extensively studied because of its ecological significance. Bacterioplankton is a group of organisms that is able to use extracellular phytoplanktonic carbohydrates, as many authors have demonstrated. The aim of this thesis was to identify specific associations algae/bacteria in the planktonic environmen

11. Extraction, yield and properties of Kappaphycus alvarezii (Doty) Doty ex P. Silva carrageenan, in experimental cultivation in Ubatuba, São Paulo / Extração, teor e propriedades de carragenana de Kappaphycus alvarezii (Doty) Doty ex P. Silva, em cultivo experimental em Ubatuba, SP.
ABSTRACT Cap.2 Procedures for the quantification of carrageenans generally involve drying of seaweed, followed by washing, alkali treatment, extraction in water or in lightly alkaline solutions, and separation of the carrageenan from the residues. Obtained results depend mostly on the various methods involved and equipment utilized. This paper was designated

12. Increase of Nitrogenase Activity in the Blue-Green Alga Nostoc muscorum (Cyanobacterium)
Preincubation of the blue-green alga (cyanobacterium) Nostoc muscorum under hydrogen or argon (nongrowing conditions, neither CO2 nor N2 or bound nitrogen present) in the light resulted in a two- to fourfold increase of light-induced hydrogen evolution and a 30% increase of acetylene reduction. Preincubation under the same gases in the dark led to a decrease
