13. Hospital-acquired intestinal toxemia botulism in a newly diagnosed adult colon cancer patient
ABSTRACT This manuscript reports a case of intestinal toxemia botulism in an adult with recently diagnosed metastatic colon cancer in whom botulism symptoms began 23 days after hospital admission. Representing the rarest form of botulism presentation in clinical practice, this infectious disease may have developed due to a cluster of predisposing factors tha

15. Enzymatically and/or thermally treated Macroalgae biomass as feedstock for fermentative H2 production
ABSTRACT Due to its high carbohydrate content, algae biomass can be employed as feedstock to produce hydrogen (H2) by fermentation. However, to make the carbohydrates entrapped within the cell wall more bioavailable, algae biomass must be treated before fermentation. We submitted Kappaphyccus alvarezzi macroalgae biomass to autoclave (at 120 °C and 1 atm fo

16. Molecular characterization of virulence genes cctA, nanA, and fliC in Clostridium chauvoei from Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo State, Brazil

17. Optimization of solid-state fermentation conditions of Bacillus licheniformis and its effects on Clostridium perfringens-induced necrotic enteritis in broilers
ABSTRACT In the present study, we examined the growth parameters of Bacillus licheniformis in solid-state fermentation (SSF) and evaluated the effects of Bacillus licheniformis-fermented products on Clostridium perfringens-challenged broilers. During four and six days of SSF, the highest viable biomass was observed at 5% glucose, 10% soybean meal, 3% yeast,

18. Intra-abdominal granulomas caused by Clostridium tertium in an American Fuzzy Lop rabbit

19. Genome sequence of the H2-producing Clostridium beijerinckii strain Br21 isolated from a sugarcane vinasse treatment plant
Abstract We report on the nearly complete genome sequence of Clostridium beijerinckii strain Br21, formerly isolated from a sugarcarne vinasse wastewater treatment plant. The resulting genome is ca. 5.9 Mbp in length and resembles the size of previously published C. beijerinckii genomes. We annotated the genome sequence and predicted a total of 5323 genes. S

20. Statistical Optimisation of Fermentation Media for Novel Clostridium novyi -NT Using Response Surface Methodology.
ABSTRACT Clostridial collagenase is recognized as one of the important proteolytic enzymes used in treatment of varieties of fibro-proliferative disorders. The present work aimed to optimise the biomass concentration and collagenase enzyme activity of novel bacilli Clostridium novyi-NT. The response surface methodology tool was used to identify the optimal f

21. Development of a hamburger-type product derived from bovine liver
Abstract Changes in eating habits generated a demand for processed foods. The use of bovine liver in processed foods provides nutritional enrichment; the use of oatmeal promotes moisture and fat substitution. This study evaluated hamburger-type products derived from bovine liver. Three formulations were prepared using bovine liver and containing 0%, 5%, and

22. Use of molecular techniques for the analysis of the microbiological quality of fish marketed in the municipality of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, Brazil
ABSTRACT The present study was stimulated by the growing demand for healthy food and the technology available for the detection and identification of microbial organisms in fishery products. Molecular tools were used to identify the bacterial community and detect the presence of pathogenic species in samples of farmed and wild-caught fish. Samples of muscle
