1. Therapeutic effects of dimethyldiguanide combined with clomifene citrate in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome

Objective: to study cervical colonization in women with preterm labor and/or premature rupture of membranes. Method: 212 pregnant women with preterm labor and/or premature rupture of membranes (PROM), admitted at Hospital Estadual Sumaré, during the period between July 2002 and January 2004, were studied. Two cervical samples from each woman were collected

4. In situ variation of cervical mucus pH during exposure to atmospheric air
The objective of the present study was to determine if exposure of cervical mucus to air during specular examination could modify mucus pH. Detection of changes is justified because of their possible interference with sperm-mucus interaction, since an acidic pH is unfavorable to sperm penetration and is associated with infertility due to the cervical factor.

5. Administração continua e prolongada de Levonorgestrel, por via intra-uterina : efeito sobre a fisiologia reprodutiva e avaliação clinica como anticoncepcional
The effects of the intrauterine administration of levonorgestrel (L-Ng) upon the femaIe reproductive system and its performance as a contraceptive method were studied. Levonorgestrel was reIeased from intrauterine devices (IUD) releasing 20 or 30 mcg/day for up to even years. The clinic study was a comparative study with the T-Cu 380Ag. The results showed th

6. Azithromycin levels in cervical mucus and plasma after a single 1.0g oral dose for chlamydial cervicitis.
OBJECTIVE--To determine the kinetics of azithromycin in cervical mucus and plasma. SUBJECTS AND METHODS--Azithromycin concentrations were determined in plasma and mucus samples from 20 women with cervical chlamydial infection one, seven and fourteen days after a single oral 1.0 g dose. RESULTS--In mucus, all measurable azithromycin concentrations were above

7. Cervical mucus antibodies against human papillomavirus type 16, 18, and 33 capsids in relation to presence of viral DNA.
To investigate whether cervical mucus antibodies against human papillomavirus (HPV) capsids are associated with the detection of HPV DNA or HPV-related cytological diagnoses, 611 samples of cervical secretions from 359 women referred to a colposcopy clinic were tested by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the presence of immunoglobulin A (IgA) antibodi

8. Enzyme activity in bovine cervical mucus during spontaneous and induced estrus
The purpose of the present research was to compare the enzyme activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), α-amylase, α-manosidase, β-N-acetyloglucosaminidase, β-glucuronidase, and β-galactosidase in the cervical mucus of cows during spontaneous and induced estrus. Friesian cows (n = 106) were assigned to 4 groups: 1) no treatmen

9. Differential susceptibility of fresh Trichomonas vaginalis isolates to complement in menstrual blood and cervical mucus.
The ability of complement in human menstrual blood and cervical mucus to kill Trichomonas vaginalis was compared with that of complement in serum, and 95 fresh trichomonal isolates obtained from vaginal wash material were evaluated for susceptibility to complement immediately after isolation. Only serum and menstrual blood with haemolytic activity produced t

10. Evaluation of Immunoglobulin A1 (IgA1) Protease and IgA1 Protease-Inhibitory Activity in Human Female Genital Infection with Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Immunoglobulin A1 (IgA1) protease, an enzyme that selectively cleaves human IgA1, may be a virulence factor for pathogenic organisms such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Host protection from the effects of IgA1 protease includes antibody-mediated inhibition of IgA1 protease activity, and it is believed that the relative balance between IgA1 protease and inhibitory
