1. Alternative methodologies for genotyping polymorphisms in the CAST and CAPN1 genes in beef cattle
ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were to genotype single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) AF159246:g.2959A>G (CAST/DdeI) and AF248054.2:g.6545C>T (CAPN4751) in beef cattle by PCR-RFLP (Polymerase Chain Reaction - Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism), using the restriction enzyme DdeI for both SNP, and describe the use of these genotyping methodologie

2. Estimates of genetic parameters of pigments and agronomic traits in green and purple lettuce

3. Discovery and characterization of SSR markers in Eugenia uniflora L. (Myrtaceae) using low coverage genome sequencing
Abstract: Eugenia uniflora L. (Myrtaceae) is a tree species widely distributed in South America suffering the effects of the exploitation of natural populations. In this study, we employed low coverage sequencing of the E. uniflora genome for mining of SSR markers. The de novo assembly generated 2,601 contigs with an average length of 1139 bp and spans 3.15

4. New microsatellite loci for annatto (Bixa orellana), a source of natural dyes from Brazilian Amazonia
Abstract Annatto (Bixa orellana) is a tropical crop native to the Americas with Amazonia as the likely center of origin of domestication. Annatto is important because it produces the dye bixin, which is widely used in the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic and textile industries. A total of 32 microsatellite loci were isolated from a microsatellite-enriched geno

5. Determination of thermal comfort zone for early-stage broilers
ABSTRACT Environmental temperatures currently considered within comfort zone for broiler rearing may be misleading or even obsolete from actual values. Some factors such as animal genetics, nutrition and poultry management, mainly acclimatization to tropical and subtropical conditions, influence in determining the comfort zone for birds. This study aimed to

6. Quantitative genetics theory for genomic selection and efficiency of breeding value prediction in open-pollinated populations
ABSTRACT To date, the quantitative genetics theory for genomic selection has focused mainly on the relationship between marker and additive variances assuming one marker and one quantitative trait locus (QTL). This study extends the quantitative genetics theory to genomic selection in order to prove that prediction of breeding values based on thousands of si

7. Identification of selection signatures in livestock species
The identification of regions that have undergone selection is one of the principal goals of theoretical and applied evolutionary genetics. Such studies can also provide information about the evolutionary processes involved in shaping genomes, as well as physical and functional information about genes/genomic regions. Domestication followed by breed formatio

8. MT BB: tomato cultivar for practical classes of plant genetics and breeding
MT BB cultivar originated from a backcross program which aimed at adding two recessive mutations that alter leaf architecture (potato leaf - c) and flower color (white flower - wf) to Micro-Tom cultivar, which is a tomato miniature. MT BB was developed for use in practical classes of genetics and breeding in both undergraduate and graduate courses.

9. Cross-species amplification of microsatellite loci developed for Passiflora edulis Sims. in related Passiflora Species
The aim of this study was to evaluate the selected 41 SSR markers developed for yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Sims.) for their transferability to 11 different Passiflora species. Twenty-one SSR were successfully amplified in 10 wild species of passion fruit producing 101 bands. All the markers were amplifiable for at least one species

10. Genetic structure of Argentinean hexaploid wheat germplasm
The identification of genetically homogeneous groups of individuals is an ancient issue in population genetics and in the case of crops like wheat, it can be valuable information for breeding programs, genetic mapping and germplasm resources. In this work we determined the genetic structure of a set of 102 Argentinean bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) elite

11. Caracterização agronômica e seleção de linhagens de soja destinadas ao consumo humano
Soybean is the most important crop to man, because it contains in the grain, about 20% of oil and 40% of protein of low cost of production. Brazil is the second largest world producer of soybeans; however the most of the production is destined for industries of vegetable oil and the exportation in the form of grain. Even reducing the risk of chronic diseases

12. Herança da resistência da soja à podridão radicular de fitóftora, em variedades comerciais brasileiras
The phytophthora root rot (PRR), caused by Phytophthora sojae (Kaufman &Gerdman), is one of the most destructive soybean diseases and can provoke yield losses of up to 100%. PRR has occurred more frequently in Brazil since the season 2005/06, mainly in the South region. There are some resistant commercial varieties but their inheritance remains unknown. All
