1. Bioelectrooxidation of Ethanol Using NAD-Dependent Alcohol Dehydrogenase on Oxidized Flexible Carbon Fiber Arrays
Hierarchical 3-dimensional flexible carbon fiber (FCF) array is a candidate as flexible electrode for enzyme electrochemistry, with interesting properties for application in enzymatic biofuel cell and implantable biosensors. Here, we show the fabrication of oxidized FCF electrode (FCFO) based on chemical surface treatment, a wet oxidation method by using per

2. Cyanobacterial nitrogenases: phylogenetic diversity, regulation and functional predictions
Abstract Cyanobacteria is a remarkable group of prokaryotic photosynthetic microorganisms, with several genera capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen (N2) and presenting a wide range of morphologies. Although the nitrogenase complex is not present in all cyanobacterial taxa, it is spread across several cyanobacterial strains. The nitrogenase complex has also

3. THIRD GENERATION BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM MICROALGAE Phormidium autumnale
Abstract The aim of this work was to evaluate third generation biodiesel production by the microalgae Phormidium autumnale using sucrose as exogenous carbon source. The study focused on optimization of the different C/N ratios and on the analysis of biofuel quality. The results indicate that a C/N ratio of 40 improved the performance of the system, reaching

4. Effects of Sodium Nitrate and Mixotrophic Culture on Biomass and Lipid Production in Hypersaline Microalgae Dunaliella Viridis Teod
To access the potential application of Dunaliella viridis Teod. for biofuel production, the effects of culture media composition on biomass and lipid content of this microalgae were investigated. Measured at the 20 th day, sodium nitrate at 5.0 mM augmented biomass production by 26.5 percent compared to control (1 mM sodium nitrate). Total lipids expressed a

7. An overview of lignin metabolism and its effect on biomass recalcitrance
Lignin, after cellulose, is the second most abundant biopolymer on Earth, accounting for 30% of the organic carbon in the biosphere. It is considered an important evolutionary adaptation of plants during their transition from the aquatic environment to land, since it bestowed the early tracheophytes with physical support to stand upright and enabled long-dis

8. INFLUÊNCIA DA TEMPERATURA, SALINIDADE E NUTRIENTES DISSOLVIDOS (N e P) NO CULTIVO DE MICROALGAS DE ÁGUA ESTUARINA E COSTEIRA. / INFLUÊNCIA DA TEMPERATURA, SALINIDADE E NUTRIENTES DISSOLVIDOS (N e P) NO CULTIVO DE MICROALGAS DE ÁGUA ESTUARINA E COSTEIRA.
The development of commercial microencapsulated food has contributed to the feeding management of crustacean, mussel and fish larvae. However, the use of microalgae in natura is still essential for the high quality production of cultivated organisms. Microalgae have been employed not only in direct feeding but also indirectly, as for zooplankton production a

9. Biofuel Cells Select for Microbial Consortia That Self-Mediate Electron Transfer
Microbial fuel cells hold great promise as a sustainable biotechnological solution to future energy needs. Current efforts to improve the efficiency of such fuel cells are limited by the lack of knowledge about the microbial ecology of these systems. The purposes of this study were (i) to elucidate whether a bacterial community, either suspended or attached

10. OptStrain: A computational framework for redesign of microbial production systems
This paper introduces the hierarchical computational framework OptStrain aimed at guiding pathway modifications, through reaction additions and deletions, of microbial networks for the overproduction of targeted compounds. These compounds may range from electrons or hydrogen in biofuel cell and environmental applications to complex drug precursor molecules.
