2. Behavior and identification of ephemeral sand dunes at the backshore zone using video images
ABSTRACT The backshore zone is transitional environment strongly affected by ocean, air and sand movements. On dissipative beaches, the formation of ephemeral dunes over the backshore zone plays significant contribution in the beach morphodynamics and sediment budget. The aim of this work is to describe a novel method to identify ephemeral dunes in the backs

3. Assessing the sources of high fecal coliform levels at an urban tropical beach
Recreational water quality is commonly assessed by microbial indicators such as fecal coliforms. Maceió is the capital of Alagoas state, located in tropical northeastern Brazil. Its beaches are considered as the most beautiful urban beaches in the country. Jatiúca Beach in Maceió was found to be unsuitable for bathing continuously during the year of 2011.

4. Looking through a dirty glass: how different can the characterization of a fish fauna be when distinct nets are used for sampling?
The present study compares fish species composition, dominance, and size-structure patterns at an open sand beach area (32°15'S, 52°46'W) in Mirim Lake, RS, Brazil, estimated from samples collected with two distinct beach seine nets. The BS-9m net is 9 m long and 1.5 m high, and is made with a 5 mm multifilament mesh on its central portion and 12 mm on the

5. Biologia populacional do poliqueta exogone (exogone) breviantennata Hartmann-Schröder, 1959 (Syllidae: Exogoninae) / Population biology of the polychaete exogone (exogone) breviantennata Hartmann-Schröder, 1959 (Syllidae: Exogoninae)
The study of the syllid Exogone (Exogone) breviantennata was conducted in two soft bottom beds of the mytilid Mytella charruana at Camaroeiro and Cidade beaches, located on the northern coast of São Paulo. To characterize the study areas, samples were taken monthly between february 2006 and february 2007 at Camaroeiro, and between april 2006 and april 2007

Morphodynamics associated between dune, beach and underwater area as an aid to proper occupation of coastal space in Praia do Pero - RJ.
The coastline offers a veritable mosaic of diversity in coastal landforms, which enable the development of a number of different economic activities. Coastal environments are highly dynamic and involve a complex series of continental and oceanic processes. The beach of Pero, located between Cape Buzios and Cabo Frio, Rio coast, appears as an area distinct fr

8. Geomorfologia e potencial de preservação dos campos de dunas transgressivos de Cidreira e Itapeva, litoral norte do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil
The association of several favorable factors (high supply of fine sand to the beach, appropriate wind regime, lowland topography) has resulted in the development of a wide transgressive dunefield that stands out as a fundamental element in the coastal landscape of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. Along the northern littoral of the state, most of this orig

9. Análise do Método do Programa QualityCoast: estudo de caso no Município de Balneário Camboriú, SC
Balneario Camboriu is primarily engaged in the tourist resort of sun and sand, and this is often seasonal and massive, contributing, in many cases, the loss of environmental quality and the weakening of destinations for significant income generation and employment. The city still suffers a violent process of urbanization and vertical housing, traffic congest

Among the reptiles found in the Amazon, the turtles stand out because of its diversity and economic importance. Podocnemis expansa, popularly known as Amazon river turtle, is considered the largest freshwater turtle in South America and has been heavily exploited for centuries by many indigenous and riverine communities. 12. Relações entre a morfodinâmica e a utilização em trechos da costa oceânica da Ilha de Santa Catarina, SC, Brasil
This Doctorate dissertation analyzes the relation among morphodynamic characteristics of oceanic sandy beaches and the use of its coast. The study area is the oceanic coast of Santa Catarina Island, in Florianópolis, SC, southern Brazil. First of all, data about forty beach profiles, which had been monitored, were collected. Several parameters were analyzed
