13. Balancing Internal and External R&D Strategies to Improve Innovation and Financial Performance
Abstract This research investigated the complementarity of internal and external R&D for innovation development and the effect of innovation on the financial performance of European manufacturing firms. Using multigroup structural equation modeling, this study partially supported that internal and external R&D are complementary in firms from high-technology

14. A simple organized approach for balancing nuclear equation
Abstract This paper reports on the development of a simple organized approach for balancing a given nuclear equation in which all the reactants and products appear explicitly. A novel general algorithm for finding the balanced form of a nuclear equation has been offered for the said purpose. It has been found that, in addition to having the physically admiss

15. Debating US Military Strategy in the Persian Gulf: What is the Way Forward?
Abstract Should the US strategy toward the Gulf be one of offshore balancing or one of deep engagement? The debate on US grand strategy lacks solid empirical ground. I address this issue by providing a study of the US´ role as the Gulf’s security provider. I investigate the extent to which distinct military strategies have affected the stability of the re

16. Searching for ancient balanced polymorphisms shared between Neanderthals and Modern Humans
Abstract Hominin evolution is characterized by adaptive solutions often rooted in behavioral and cognitive changes. If balancing selection had an important and long-lasting impact on the evolution of these traits, it can be hypothesized that genes associated with them should carry an excess of shared polymorphisms (trans- SNPs) across recent Homo species. 17. BALANCING AMBULANCE CREW WORKLOADS VIA A TIERED DISPATCH POLICY
ABSTRACT Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system’s mission is to provide timely and effective treatment to anyone in need of urgent medical care throughout their jurisdiction. The default dispatch policy is to send the nearest ambulance to all medical emergencies and it is widely accepted by many EMS providers. However, sending nearest ambulance is not alw

18. Identifying forest ecosystem regions for agricultural use and conservation
ABSTRACT Balancing agricultural needs with the need to protect biodiverse environments presents a challenge to forestry management. An imbalance in resource production and ecosystem regulation often leads to degradation or deforestation such as when excessive cultivation damages forest biodiversity. Lack of information on geospatial biodiversity may hamper f

19. Origins of Bipedalism
ABSTRACT This article aimed to review various theories of bipedalism and provide a holistic answer to human evolution. There have been two questions regarding bipedalism: i) why were the earliest hominins partially bipedal?, and ii) why did hominins become increasingly bipedal over the time and replaced their less bipedal ancestors? To answer these questions

20. Analysis and Design of a GaAs Monolithic Tunable Polyphase Filter in S/C Bands
AbstractThis paper proposes a new topology of a 2-Stages Active Polyphase Filter (APPF) in MMIC GaAs technology. This new topology, named “radial”, allows a greater balancing of output signals phases and amplitudes, over the actual APPF’s at the state of the art. In this paper an ex-novo study is shown and synthesis formulas for the APPF are provided.

21. Relationships among the Y balance test, Berg Balance Scale, and lower limb strength in middle-aged and older females
Background: Older females have less dynamic postural control and muscle strength than do middle-aged females. Aging-related strength losses may limit balancing performance. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the ability of the Y Balance Test (YBT) and lower limb strength to discriminate between females in 2 age groups, the relationship

22. A NEW LOOK AT THE BOWL PHENOMENON
An interesting empirical result in the assembly line literature states that slightly unbalanced assembly lines (in the format of a bowl - with central stations less loaded than the external ones) present higher throughputs than perfectly balanced ones. This effect is known as the bowl phenomenon. In this study, we analyze the presence of this phenomenon in a

23. Models of protein and amino acid requirements for cattle
Protein supply and requirements by ruminants have been studied for more than a century. These studies led to the accumulation of lots of scientific information about digestion and metabolism of protein by ruminants as well as the characterization of the dietary protein in order to maximize animal performance. During the 1980s and 1990s, when computers became

24. Optimization of ethanol flow rate for improved catalytic activity of Ni particles to synthesize MWCNTs using a CVD reactor
During synthesis of MWCNTs using CVD, role of carbonaceous material and catalyst, besides other process parameters, has considerable influence on the structure and yield of pristine nanotubes. In present study, different flow rates (i.e. 10, 25, 40 and 55 sccm) of precursor ethanol were used for the synthesis of MWCNTs at 750 ºC in a CVD reactor, where nick
