1. Donovanosis,
Abstract Donovanosis is a chronic, progressive, and indolent bacterial disease that affects the skin and mucous membranes of the genital and perigenital regions, often associated with sexual transmission, and with low infectivity. The malignant transformation of donovanosis lesions occurs exceptionally, as is usually seen in long-term ulcerations.

2. The rates and players of denitrification, dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonia (DNRA) and anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox) in mangrove soils
Abstract Mangroves are ecosystems located in the transition zone between land and sea, characterized by periodic flooding that confer to its unique characteristics. Little is known about the transformation of nutrients that occur during the organic matter degradation in this system. In this study, we monitor the nitrogen transformations in soils from three m

3. Characterisation of iunH gene knockout strain from Mycobacterium tuberculosis
BACKGROUND Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused mainly by the bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The better understanding of important metabolic pathways from M. tuberculosis can contribute to the development of novel therapeutic and prophylactic strategies to combat TB. Nucleoside hydrolase (MtIAGU-NH), encoded by iunH gene (Rv3393), is an

4. Immobilization of puerarin glycosidase from Microbacterium oxydans CGMCC 1788 increases puerarin transformation efficiency
For immobilization of puerarin glycosidase from Microbacterium oxydans CGMCC 1788 on DEAE-52 cellulose, the optimal amount of enzyme protein was 12 mg protein: 1 g DEAE-52 cellulose; the optimal pH was 6.5; and the optimal immobilization time was 6 hr. The specific activity of immobilized enzyme was 36.67 mU.g-1 carrier with an immobilization yield of 98.87%

5. Estudo sobre a evolução do aporte natural e antrópico de matéria orgânica para sedimentos de um sistema estuarino- lagunar tropical (Mundaú-Manguaba, Alagoas) utilizando lipídios como marcadores moleculares / Study on the evolution of natural and anthropogenic inputs of organic matter for sediments of a tropical lagoon-estuarine system (Mundaú-Manguaba, Alagoas) using lipids as molecular markers
This thesis presents a study on the accumulation of organic matter in the sediments of the complex estuarine lagoon Mundaú Manguaba (CELMM) using lipids (fatty acids, sterols and linear alcohols) as molecular markers to evaluate the sources (natural and anthropogenic) and spatial and temporal variation in the composition of sedimentary organic matter, as we

6. Participação de enzimas de reparo por excisão de bases na restauração de lesões induzidas pela associação da radiação ultravioleta A e cloreto estanoso em Escherichia coli / Involvement of base excision repair enzymes in restoring ultraviolet A and stannous chloride induced lesions in Escherichia coli
Stannous chloride (SnCl2) and ultraviolet radiation A (UVA) are able to induce lesions in different cellular structures, including DNA, manly through ROS generation. The aim of this work was to study the mutagenesis and repair of lesions induced by the association of UVA (pre treatment) with SnCl2. It was evaluated the action of base excision repair (BER) en

7. Glass bead transformation method for gram-positive bacteria
A simple, inexpensive and reproducible transformation method was developed for Gram-positive bacteria. It was based on agitation of bacterial protoplasts with glass beads in the presence of DNA and polyethylene glycol. By using this method, introduction of pGK12 into protoplasts of several strains of Gram-positive bacteria was achieved.

8. Genetic transformation of sugarcane by biolistic and Agrobacterium tumefaciens to study the mechanism of programmed cell death / Transformação genética de cana-de-açúcar por biolística e Agrobacterium tumefaciens visando estudar o mecanismo de morte celular programada
Sugarcane is one of the main crops planted in Brazil and presents significant socioeconomic and agribusiness importance to the country. The world scene is quite favorable as regards the marketing of its two main products, sugar and alcohol, driving the development of the national sugar-alcohol sector. Therefore, the sugarcane genetic breeding appears as the

CEFALOSPORINAS E SURFACTANTE NÃO-IÔNICO EM EFLUENTE HOSPITALAR: DETERMINAÇÃO, DEGRADAÇÃO POR MEIO DE FOTÓLISE E ELETROCOAGULAÇÃO E IDENTIFICAÇÃO DE SUBPRODUTOS E METABÓLITOS / CEFALOSPORINS AND NON IONIC SURFACTANTS IN HOSPITAL WASTEWATER: DETERMINATION, DEGRADATION BY MEANS OF PHOTOLYSIS AND ELECTROCOAGULATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF BYPRODUCTS AND METABOLITES
The currently incorrect and excessive consumption of pharmaceuticals and surfactants, mainly domestic usage, has become a concern to the scientific community around the world, due to the environmental consequences with regard to the bacterial resistance (characteristic of antibiotics), and alteration of hormonal systems (provoked by the degradation products

10. Cromoblastomicose: à procura do modelo experimental murino. / Chromoblastomycosis: searching for experimental murine model.
This study was prompted by the lack of a satisfactory chronic infection animal model for studies of experimental chromoblastomycosis and the fact that very little is known about the infective fungal forms of Fonsecaea pedrosoi. First, we investigated the infective potential of different mycelial forms of F. pedrosoi, hyphae, conidia and conidiogenous cells,

11. Production of enantiomerically pure D-Phenylglycine using Pseudomonas aeruginosa 10145 as biocatalyst
Different bacterial strains were screened to detect nitrilase and/or nitrile hidratase/amidase activities towards benzonitrile, to be used as biocatalyst to produce enantiomerically pure non-proteinogenic amino acids using amino nitriles as starting material. The best biocatalyst found was Pseudomonas aeruginosa 10145, which showed high enzyme activities. Wh

Huanglongbing (HLB), also known as greening, is the world most important citrus disease and it is caused by the bacterium Candidatus Liberibacter spp. This disease was originated from China and Africa, where were discovered the variants Ca. L. asiaticus and Ca. L. africanus, respectively. In 2004, the disease was detected in Brazil, where the variants asiati
