1. Stabilization of sandy soil with high content of asphalt emulsion
Abstract The purpose of this article is to evaluate the shear strength parameters of mixtures of sandy soil with high asphalt emulsion contents for their use in geotechnical structures, such as zoned earth dams, embankments, etc. The methodology adopted consisted of: collecting and characterizing samples of sandy soil to be laboratory tested; compacting the

2. Estudo da incorporação de resíduos da industria calçadista em misturas asfálticas
ABSTRACT The footwear industry discards residues in its most diverse phases of production, the Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) being one of them. This work proposes an evaluation of the use of EVA’s residue discarded by the footwear industry of Campina Grande city in asphalt mixtures. The modified asphalt binder was characterized by penetration test, softenin

3. Optimal hydrated lime concentration in asphalt binder to improve photo degradation resistance
Abstract The effect of short-term oxidation, evaluated by using a Rolling Thin Film Oven Test, and the effect of weathering aging on the oxidation process of hydrated lime modified asphalts were studied. Hydrated lime (HL) has been known as an additive for asphalt mixtures and is now considered as a binder additive that increases asphalt mixture durability.

4. Modification of thermal and rheological behavior of asphalt binder by the addition of an ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate terpolymer and polyphosphoric acid
Abstract This study evaluated the modification effects of adding ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate terpolymer (EMGMA) in the presence of polyphosphoric acid (PPA) to an asphalt binder graded as 50/70 (0.1mm) in the Brazilian penetration grade specification (AC 50/70). The EMGMA terpolymer has been presented as a new alternative to modify asphalt

5. Viscoelastic Behaviour Characterization of a Gap-graded Asphalt Mixture with SBS Polymer Modified Bitumen
A characterization of the linear thermo-viscoelastic behaviour of a gap-graded bituminous mixture with SBS-polymer modified bitumen and RAP aggregates is presented in this paper. A comparison was made, in terms of their viscoelastic behaviour, between this innovative mixture and two commonly used well-graded base-course French mixtures made with pure bitumen

6. Contribuição para calibração de curva de evolução de afundamentos em trilha de roda de revestimentos asfálticos com utilização de resultados obtidos de simulador de tráfego em escala real. / A contribution to the calibration of performance curves for the prediction of permanent deformation in asphalt pavements using the results obtained from a large scale mobile traffic simulator
Permanent deformation, or rutting, is a critical type of pavement distress given that it is directly associated with transportation costs, due to a reduction of the ride quality, and user safety, due to poor driving conditions or water build-up during rainy periods that affect the tire-pavement interaction. In the case of pavements of highways belonging to c

7. Effects of Sasobit® content on the rheological characteristics of unaged and aged asphalt binders at high and intermediate temperatures
This paper describes the rheological properties of PG64, PG70, and PG76 asphalt binders blended with different Sasobit® contents. The rheological properties of the Sasobit®-modified binders were characterized after being subjected to different aging conditions using the dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) and rotational viscometer (RV) according to SuperpaveTM t

8. AvaliaÃÃo do desempenho de ligante asfÃltico modificado por poli (Ãcido fosfÃrico) (PPA) e efeitos da adiÃÃo do lÃquido da casca da castanha de caju (LCC). / Performance evaluation of asphalt binder modified poly (phosphoric acid) (PPA) and effects adding the liquid from the bark of cashew (LCC)
The AC with 50/70 penetration grade (Petrobras - LUBNOR), pure and modified by polyphosphoric acid (PPA), was analyzed by rheological tests (viscosity and DSR), thermal analysis (TGA and DSC), spectrometric (NMR and FTIR) and chromatographic (TLC-FID and GPC) methods. The interaction of AC with PPA was investigated from the reactions of its fractions (aromat

The asphalt cement plays a major role in hot mix asphalts (HMA) by bonding the mineral aggregates and conferring impermeability. Despite the relatively small percentage of asphalt cement in hot mixes, the mechanical properties of asphalt layers are highly dependent on the quality of the binder. The physical and rheological properties of asphalt binders can b

12. Behavior of nonwoven geotextiles impregnated with asphalt emulsion used in anti-reflective cracking systems / Comportamento de geotêxteis não tecidos impregnados com emulsão asfáltica usados como sistema anti-reflexão de trincas
The use of geosynthetics in roadway systems has received considerable attention over the past decades. Paving fabrics have been used for rehabilitation of pavements to reduce propagation of cracks and to extend pavement life. In addition, the success of this technique depends directly on the understanding of the geotextiles behavior when impregnated with asp
