RESUMO

The present work focused on studying the human burials in the archaeological site, "Old Cathedral", in Salvador, in Bahia, along with necklaces of beads related to the religious cultures of African origin. The archaeological context in which these traces were found brought up, after analysis, the hypothesis of ritual practices derived from religious systems that coexisted side by side. In order to prove this hypothesis, they tried to prove, initially, the relation between the socalled beads and the African religiosity. Thus, they consulted specialists in African cultures (Professor Waldeloir Rego) who, through the beads nature, assured this relation. Also, they used the iconography of religious African objects, and also the sources at the Afro-Brazilian Museum which belongs to Universidade Federal da Bahia, UFBA. We should also add to these sources some bibliographical references. The analysis of the archaeological research that generated this work, due to the precise profile localization of the burials which allowed them to point out a cronology between the XVIII and XIX centuries. Sources of documents which made this research possible were also taken account We should finalize this work demonstrating that the presence of these archaeological traces in the context presented is explained by the duo religiosity in which the enslaved blacks had to live in the city of Salvador of such period. This present work, especially, points out to an analysis of the religious parallelism concepts and its consequences on the personal and institutional segments
