RESUMO

In the quest for cultural sustainability, this research seeks to bring into the academic world the traditional knowledge of cerrado communities, as preserved by their matriarchs, to foster reflection on some of the main paradigms of Environmental Management within this area. Using art as a means for promoting awareness and as an instrument for Environmental Education, this project uses research-action and heuristics as methodologies, and dramatic techniques based on mimesis to develop an archetypical dramatic character, the Old Lady of the Cerrado, who visits these communities, seeking to understand their cultural production as it relates to environmental conservation. This studys proposition is based on the identification of the Great Mother archetype in the shaman-like curandeiras, rezadeiras and benzedeiras, all of them bearers of the ancestral knowledge of dialogue between the communities and the natural elements surrounding it. Natural elements such as animals, plants, rivers and the earth, but also longgone comadres, absent parents or grandparents or the ancestral knowledge of the uses of old medicine plants of the cerrado. In this way, the Old Lady of the Cerrado are variations of old ladies, are many varying old ladies, in a dialogue between reality and abstraction, academia and traditional knowledge, intuition and nature, art and science.
