RESUMO

The present work investigated quantitatively several parameters associated with the pre-convulsive phase of audiogenic seizures in the albino rat (Wistar variety) ,using a microcomputer-based apparatus developed to record and analyse the running motor phase episodes. We studied the effect of the acoustic stimuli intensity in seizures and the action of the acoustic stimuli interruption in different periods of the. pre-convulsive phase. The results obtained indicated that the acoustic stimulus intensification is related with the increase of the seizure severity and with decrease of running bout onset latency. Acoustic stimuli interruption (mainly 25 seconds interruptions) during an audiogenic seizure manifestation determine the suppression or significant onset delay of the seizure elements subsequent to the stimulus suspension. A theoretical model of the neural mechanisms of audiogenic seizures was proposed based in experimental data
