RESUMO

Micrometeorological data obtained over tropical savannah (Koorin Experiment, 16°16 S; 133°23 E, Australia) were used to evaluate the similarity functions A, B and C in the planetary boundary layer. Different flux-profile relationships , and scaling parameters for wind and temperature were utilized in the calculations. In addition, the observed boundary layer height was also used as the scaling parameter. The use of vertically averaged geostrophic wind and potential temperature gave less scatter of points than the specified local values at the top of the boundary layer. The results were compared with previous studies. In general, the curves of the similarity function A showed higher values if compared with others. In the case of the similarity function B the agreement with previous results is good. The results of the similarity function C showed comparatively higher than the other investigations. Thus, a part of the above noted disparities must have been spurious, probably caused by large roughness parameter of vegetation, different ways of determining surface fluxes, and of defining external variables by the previous investigators. So, the empirical determination of the similarity functions indicate doubts on the universality of these relations.
