RESUMO

The aim of this work is to present the results of a research on the field of the bilingual terminology aiming at setting the bases for the elaboration of a glossary for terms of the Furniture Industry, with the purpose of favoring a specialized area in two languages: Portuguese and English. It is about a research of descriptive and systematical character. It presents, in the end, a bilingual glossary (Portuguese-English) from the Furniture Industry field whose terms are inserted in the categories: nouns and lexical units; adjectives; verbs. The criteria used for the selection of the terms were of pertinence and lexical statute. For the achievement of this study, the principles of Communicative Theory of Terminology were considered. This research approaches the relevance of the terminological task at the actual moment and it presents its reason in the introduction of the work, but it can be synthesized in its intention to contribute for a harmonic and precise communication among the professionals and businessmen that actuate in this domain.
