RESUMO

An experimental investigation was carried out to obtain the average convective heat transfer from air to spherical glass particles in vertical pneumatic conveying. The aim is to find a relationship between the flow and thermal variables, including the effect of solid particles concentration. The test section consisted of a vertical tube with 0.0521 m I.D. and 4.8 m lenght with dp cells and thermocouples equally spaced along the lenght.Air mass flow rate was varied from 90 to 180 kg/h wil volumetric solid concentration was in the range 2.3x10-4 to 1.6x10-2 Correlations for the Nusselt number are proposed starting from three different physical models. Calculated results presented a reasonable agreement with the experimental data.
