RESUMO

The object of this work is to discuss the strict division between theory and practice of translation, specially concerning the poetic translation, since it is usually considered as the edge of (in)translatability by many theorists of translation and translators, and so because of the issue that involves the relation between theory and practice in the translation act as well. Assuming that the traditional conceptions about translation are based on the strict separation between theory and practice of translation, and that this fact can be seen in the translators? academic experience, we intend to show, by the comparison between translators with and without academic experience in translation, that both of them present traces of translation theories in their translation act even implicitly, revealing the inseparable relation that exists between the translating and the theory of translation. For this purpose we will support our arguments on the language and translation view present in the post-structuralism which brings the conception of multiple meanings, people?s participation in the building of them, their different readings of the world and texts, and the deconstruction of the myth of the translator?s or the reader?s invisibility or neutrality
