RESUMO

The fog formation conditions at Pelotas city, during January 1995 to April 1996 period, have been analyzed using conventional synoptic data, adiabatic diagrams, GOES-8 satellites imageries and hourly superface data ( Temperature, Relative Humidity, Wind Velocity and Atmospheric Pressure). These conditions were classificated using the synoptics situations analysis, satellites imageries and conventional synoptics datas. To make fog forecast, for the next day, the 10:00 AM local time was established due to high correlation gathered between meteorological parameters of previous day and the fog occurrence. It were also developed a classification of vertical profiles of the Temperature and Dew Point Temperature for the different fog formation physical processes, as well as the statistical analyses of predictors ( Temperature, Relative Humidity, Wind Velocity and Atmospheric Pressure) wich showed that wind velocity and relative humidity were the best ones. The simple and multiple linear regressions equations obtained represent an indication of the possibility or not for fog occurrence. Finally it was developed a fog forecast algorithm that includes the following parameters: Vertical Profiles of Temperature and Dew Point Temperature, Synoptic Situation and Wind Velocity, Relative Humidity and Temperature as predictors.
