RESUMO

A model was proposed to predict the behavior of a petroleum well killing operation by gravitational segregation. It was based on drift-flux modelling to further extend the analogy verified between this phenomenum and the well-known kinematic relations that takes place in a spray liquid-liquid extraction tower. A transparent plexiglass prototype was constructed to simulate a typical 3 1/2" production column. It allowed the visualization of the flow pattems and the experimental determination of the influence of a restrict medium. The efIects of fluids with difIerent physical properties on the phenomenum was studied using three difIerents transparent oils as the continuous phase, and tap and salt water as the dispersed phase. The experimental and the model s results were presented in form of "Wallis Diagrams", and the floodingpoint was determined
