RESUMO

One of the key problems in computer vision is the recognition and correct separation of an image components from a complex background. The current work presents the segmentation of nautical chart components such as rivers, lakes, railways, canals, text caracters, and so on. We have developed functions that use Mathematical Morphology theory to segment these components. We also use some geodesic operation concepts to keep the connectivity of the components. The operations developed here can be associated to an electronic nautical chart device or to a nautical chart recognition system for data storage in a geographical or a hidrographical database
