RESUMO

The Social Responsibility of the Brazilian public university must be in its essence. In an exculpatory and unequal society, especially in developing countries as Brazil, the university has been considered as one of the institutions more adequate to search solutions about the social challenges and to answer to the demands communities around it. Based on these reflections, the problem-situation of this research is the social responsability of the Medical School of the Federal University of Cearà in Sobral trying to answer the following question: How the social responsability actions of the Medical School of the Federal University of Cearà in Sobral are planned and developed? The work relevance is highlighted in other to rethink about the university actuation examining its social compromise level. The goal of this work is to search how the social responsibilities actions of the School of Medicine, which is attached to Federal University of Cearà campus in Sobral, are planned and developed. For in such a way, a qualitative research was realized, from a bibliographical survey, documentary and a field research, having as theoretical recital the philosophical proposals of Emmanuel LÃvinas, the ethical of the radical alterity. The survey was conducted in universe was the School of Medicine of the UFC in Sobral which was used as instrument of data gathering, in addition the documentary research, the application of questionnaires directed to the representatives of extension projects from the course and semi-structured interviews realized with the Director of the School of Medicine of the UFC and with keypeople of the School of Medicine from the campus of UFC in Sobral, namely: general coordinator, technicaladministrative staff, professors and students. The data analysis and interpretation were realized in a hermeneutic perspective, searching apprehension of meanings in the obtained answers during the interviews. The reached results had contemplated three dimensions: document analysis had offered subsidies for the reach of the others proposed objectives, identification of the social actions from the Medicine course and the recognition of the meanings of University Social Responsibility actions for the internal community of the course. After the results analysis, it has perceived that the investigated course develops social actions that offer positive answers to the local community; however, it has a lot of work to be made in order to concrete of its social responsibility.
