RESUMO

In this work, hydrological regionalization was utilized for estimating long-period average flow and reservoirs volumes in watersheds. For the regionalization of longperiod average flows, were analyzed three methods: Eletrobrás (1985a), linear interpolation, and Chaves et al. (2002). The acquisition of physical and climatic information, for regionalization, was performed by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The physical characteristics, extracted from a Hydrological Consistent Digital Elevation Model, were: drainage area, length of main river, basin average slope, slope between the source and the mouth of the longest river and drainage density. The average annual precipitation was chosen to represent the climatic characteristics of the study area. In regionalization, using the Eletrobrás (1985a) method, was performed an analysis of homogeneous regions that were defined based on classes of residues of the initial regression equation, and on the frequency curves of individual non-dimension flows. The regression models were chosen based on the analysis of different statistical parameters. By the Eletrobrás (1985a) method, were obtained the best estimates. The most significant variable in the regression equations was the drainage area, and also combinations with precipitation, average slope and slope between the source and the mouth of the longest river. For the application of linear interpolation methods and Chaves et al. (2002), there were used records from nearby stations that were located in a same basin. The interpolation and Chaves et al. (2002) methods presented higher errors when the differences of the drainage area, for the flow gauging stations drainage areas and those for the river sections for which the discharges needed to be estimated, were more significant. Regionalization of regularization curves encompassed, initially, individual curves identification removal based on the average long period flow rates. By analyzing these curves, were defined non-dimensional regional average curves, considering different regularization discharge rates. The curves were selected by analysis of correlation coefficients and error percentages. Most of the curves obtained presented significant errors for minor regularizations of the average flow
