RESUMO

In 2006 Rafael Nassif composed ...como os regatos e as árvores for voice (baritone) and flute. His compositional process was scrutinized by the performer, who contributed with information concerning non-conventional performance of techniques for the flute. The interaction between composer and performer was restricted to peruse the usage of the flute and naturally, to the technique involved in it. It is a case study. We gathered data, such as sketches and audio recordings, during the compositional process and by the three first public performances of the work. The reflections on technique presented by the data perusal led to a search for theoretical fundaments, which could make possible a verbal description of this artistic experience. We departed from general considerations on the word technique and related it to the development of the concept of technique as discussed on the works by the philosopher Martin Heidegger. Examples of this approach are presented in regard to questions concerning the application of flute techniques during the composition of the work.
