RESUMO

Reaction to fire of the lining materials and also the ones brought into the buildings (fire load) is one of the most significant factors responsible for increasing and spreading the flames, and for the development of smoke and toxic gas, contributing to fire to become critical and causing panic and death. Reaction to fire of materials has great importance upon the available time for the evacuation of a compartment fire. Formulation of escape time is based on modeling movement towards fire escapes before conditions become untenable to human life. In this work, it was used a computacional simulation program of evacuation to determine needed safe escape time, comparing it to available safe escape time, through the limitation of the smoke layer interface height with regard to depth and temperature. Simulations in three different compartments of the same building were done according to the lining materials and also according to the ones brought into the building (fire load). It was possible to realize that these simulations can be utilized to optimize the escape time formulation. Conclusions show that the utilization of specific computacional programs to simulate escape time is greatly important in order to identify safety acceptable solutions against fire according to each situation, assuring an adequate and economic safety level.
