RESUMO

The process of globalization has been considered by authors, such as Santos (2001) Hall (2001) and Bauman ( 2003), as a process of destruction in which cultural, political and geographic consequences have triggered paradoxical effects worldwide, specially, in third world countries and developing countries such as Brazil. Such effects are also seen in national organizations, when they start to compete and deal with foreign organizations that have different cultural and organizational standards from theirs. To adapt and compete with international paradigms, Brazilians companies end up going against or incorporating such international cultural standards. This practice, usually generates a resistance to chance in the organizations, because the politics of Human Resources (HR) , does not always correspond to the expectations or representations that workers attribute to quality life at work ( QLW). Studies about QLW start to arise within this context, without considering the peculiarities of different cultural elements. Thus, the objective of this study is to comprehend the implications that exist among the beliefs and values and perceptions of QLW form workers of a mining organization, distributed in many regions of the national territory and submitted to standardized politics of HR. The data were dealt with globally and regionally to evaluate the prevalence of a unit representation of workers and if it exists, which are the discrepancies found. The results obtained show the existence of some common elements in the representations of QLW as well as some more specific ones from determined regions, what suggests the need for a better care in the formulation and area covered by the RH policies of the organization.
