Propostas pedagógicas de geometria no movimento paranaense de matemática moderna

RESUMO

The study, of historical nature, has as its object the paranaense proposal of geometry in the context of the New Math Movement (NMM), initiated at international level in the 60s and 70s. The theoretical foundations were mainly based on available bibliography about NMM in Brazil, such as Brazilian Annals of Congress on the teaching of Mathematics taken place in the 50s and 60s and on the scientific production of the NMM such as BURIGO (1984) SOARES (2001), MARTINS (1984), FIORENTINI (1995), VALENTE (2003). Having as its objective to analyse the geometry teaching proposal elaborated by the Nucleus of Study and Dissemination of the Teaching of Mathematics (in Portuguese NEDEM), the study used historical sources located in archives of the Colégio Estadual do Paraná (Paranás State Gymnasium), headquarter for the Paraná experiences on the implementation of the NMM. Course plans, master plan, course books, Math tests and especially the series Ensino Moderno de Matemática (Modern Teaching of Mathematics) made out of four books (5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades of primary school), published by NEDEM in the 60s and 70s. Besides, in order to better comprehend the meaning of the geometry proposal in the context of the New Math Movement, three interviews with member teachers of NEDEM were conducted. The study has shown how NEDEM elaborated a pedagogic proposal of modern geometry, the same presented in the 3rd and 4th books destined to primary school at the time. The main innovation of the proposal was the addition of theorem demonstrations utilizing logic proposals and vectorial calculus besides a more advanced notion of homology, the group theory language. The introduction of vectors played a differential role in the paranaense proposal in relation to the proposal of other states. The different paths thought up by the group to introduce geometry (group theory, transformations, vectorial concept and logics) express the local marks left by the paranaense group in the New Math Movement. The research also showed that the NEDEM geometry proposal did not remain very long in the curriculum of the Colégio Estadual do Paraná, being replaced in 1974 by another form of aproaching the geometry contents.
