RESUMO

In an analog/digital converter with folding architecture and interpolation, the most significant bits are determined by a quantization of the input signal using a folding circuit, while the least significant bits are obtained by interpolation technique. The interpolation reduces the complexity of the circuits without increasing the folding rate of the system. All solutions employed to implement an interpolation technique use a resistive interpolation. It has some undesirable feature for the system performance, such as: higher complexity of the circuits (resistive network), delay in the signal propagation and parasitic capacitance. Alternatively, we propose to make the interpolation in the master latches ofthe analog/ digital converter. We considered the new interpolation technique in two different shapes: simple interpolation and double interpolation. For example, a 6 bit analog/digital converter using a folding and the new interpolation technique was designed and simulated. In the analog/digital converter, the 3 most significant bits are determined by folding circuits and the 3 least significant bits are determined by the new interpolation technique. The obtained results showed that the new interpolation technique makes possible a high performance A/D converter with resolution up to 8 bits, at the same time, a large analog bandwidth, a low power dissipation and small complexity
