Perspectivas do alinhamento estratégico entre negócios e tecnologia da informação em empresas de software do Porto Digital : um prisma de divergentes facetas

RESUMO

The strategic alignment between business strategy and Information Technology is one of the most discussed academic subjects due to the approaching interest of the business area and the information technology area, in order to enlarge the companies performance at a very competitive stage. This study has tried to analyse the perspectives and the different ways of strategic alignment between business strategy and information technology in small software companies based on Porto Digital. The lack of similar studies and contributions on theoretic field can justify this study once studies related to the practice of strategic alignment on big companies have been generating enough theoretical work. On the other hand, the conceptual advances which have been made concerning this subject, in the segment of smaller companies, are still very few. This research was developed in two phases. The first one, quantitative, using the hauling strategy, focusing on the description of the main characteristics of software companies from Porto Digital, no matter what size the company had, concerning the existence of a strategic business planning and a strategic information technology planning. The second phase was qualitative and used the multiple cases studies strategy, in order to understand the phenomenon of strategic alignment in small software companies. At the first phase, the simple descriptive statistic analysis was used, while at the second one, the content analysis technique was used, besides an interpretative analysis of what was found, from the Luftman model (2000). The first phase results have revealed the business strategy and IT infrastructure importance and have also shown companies configurations regarding the existence or not of strategic business planning and strategic information technology planning. The next phase results have shown the IT potential as a conductor for strategic alignment, and they have also revealed different strategic alignment ways in the researched companies. This fact seems to stimulate new research opportunities
